Guides to playing popular slots on your phone: layout in portrait and landscape, features, RTP and volatility, and the UK rules that apply.
Slots on mobile: what our slot guides cover
Each slot guide below explains how one game plays in a UK casino app on your phone: how the reels fit the screen in portrait and landscape, what every feature does, the published RTP and volatility, the maximum win where the developer states it, and the UK rules that change how the game behaves here. Almost every modern slot is built in HTML5, so the same game runs in an iPhone app, an Android app and a mobile browser with identical maths.
What the phone changes is the experience. Some games are redesigned for portrait so the spin button sits under your thumb, while others shrink a wide desktop layout and are easier to read sideways. The guides describe where the paytable, stake selector and settings sit, so you know what to tap before your first spin. Our explainer on portrait vs landscape mobile slots shows why this matters.
How to find a slot guide and what each one includes
The guides are listed A–Z. If you already know the game, jump straight to it; if not, start from a mechanic you enjoy and use the comparison table near the end of each guide, which links to two or three similar games. Popular starting points include Big Bass Bonanza, Starburst and Book of Dead.
| Mechanic | How it works | Example guide |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed paylines | Wins pay along set lines across the reels | Starburst |
| Megaways | Each reel shows a changing number of symbols, so ways to win vary every spin | Bonanza Megaways |
| Cluster pays | Groups of touching symbols pay, often with cascades | Reactoonz |
| Expanding symbol books | A chosen symbol expands across reels during the bonus | Book of Dead |
| Hold and win | Coin symbols lock in place while respins reset | Wolf Gold |
Each guide finishes with pros and cons and a short note on where the game can be played.
Slot guides A–Z
RTP and volatility: what they mean for a session on your phone
Return to player (RTP) is the share of all stakes a slot is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins. At 96%, the theoretical cost of £100 in total stakes is £4, though any single session can land far above or below that. Most slots come in several RTP versions: the developer publishes the default or maximum figure, a casino may run a lower one, and the game's own help screen shows the version you are playing. Our guide to finding a slot's RTP in an app shows where to tap.
Volatility describes how wins are spread. A low-volatility game pays small amounts often; a high-volatility game can go many spins with little return, then pay a larger amount in a feature. With a £20 budget at 20p a spin you have 100 spins of play either way, but a high-volatility game is more likely to empty that budget before the bonus round lands. Neither type changes the house edge.
Maximum win figures need the same care. A slot advertising a 5,000x maximum would pay £1,000 on a 20p stake, but that outcome is extremely rare, and the developer's figure describes the ceiling, not what a typical bonus round returns. The guides quote a maximum win only where the developer publishes one.
UK slot rules that apply in every app
- Stake limits: £5 a spin for adults aged 25 and over since 9 April 2025, and £2 a spin for those aged 18 to 24 since 21 May 2025.
- Speed: each spin lasts at least 2.5 seconds, with no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop.
- No feature buy: the option to buy straight into a bonus round is not offered to players in Great Britain, even when a guide mentions it exists elsewhere.
- Honest celebrations: a win smaller than your stake cannot be presented with winning sounds or animations.
- Demo play: free versions are available only after age verification.
These rules can make a game feel different from videos recorded outside the UK. Our pages on UK stake limits on mobile slots and slot features explained go into more depth.
Playing these slots in a licensed app
Slots from the major studios appear in most UK-licensed apps, but each casino chooses its own library and RTP versions, so search the app's lobby before depositing. One partner offer is tied to a specific game: PlayOJO gives new UK customers (excluding Northern Ireland) 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each with a first deposit of £10 or more, with winnings paid as cash and no wagering. 18+, terms apply. Coral and Ladbrokes offer spins on selected games after a £10 slots stake; see mobile slots UK for how the apps compare.
Frequently asked questions
Do slots play the same on a phone as on a computer?
The maths is identical, because the same HTML5 game is loaded on every device, so RTP, volatility and features do not change. The layout often does. Many newer slots switch to a portrait design on phones, with larger buttons at the bottom of the screen, while older games keep a wide layout and are easier to play in landscape. Paytables may sit behind a menu icon rather than on the main screen. Our guide to playing slots on your phone describes the usual controls.
Why is the RTP in my app lower than the figure online?
Many slots are released in several RTP versions, and the casino chooses which one to run. Developers usually publish the highest or default figure, so a guide may quote 96.5% while your app runs a lower setting such as 94%. The game's help or information screen shows the live figure for the version you are playing. Check it before you start, and compare apps if RTP matters to you. Our best payout casino apps page explains how to compare.
Can I buy the bonus round on slots in UK apps?
No. Feature buy, sometimes called bonus buy, is not offered to players in Great Britain, so the option is removed from UK versions of games that have it elsewhere. Videos from other countries may show a buy button that will never appear in your app. The only route to the bonus round is landing the trigger symbols during normal play, at a minimum of 2.5 seconds a spin. Our glossary entry on bonus buy explains the rule in more detail.
What is the maximum stake on slots in UK apps?
The legal maximum is £5 a spin for adults aged 25 and over and £2 a spin for those aged 18 to 24. The limits came in during spring 2025 and apply to every online slot from a UK-licensed operator, in apps and on websites. Your app uses your verified date of birth to apply the right cap automatically. Bonus terms can set a lower maximum while a bonus is active, such as Casumo's £5 limit. See UK stake limits on mobile slots for examples.
Can I play slots for free in a casino app?
Some apps offer demo versions, but UK rules require age verification before you can play them, so you need an account first. Demo play uses the same maths as the real game, which makes it useful for learning features and controls without staking money. It cannot predict what will happen when you play for real. Not every casino offers demos for every slot. Our guide to demo mode explains how verification applies.
Which slots are best for small budgets on mobile?
Games that allow low minimum stakes and have low to medium volatility tend to stretch a small budget across more spins. Many slots accept stakes from 10p or 20p, and lower-volatility titles pay smaller wins more often, so the balance moves more gently. That does not change the expected cost, which is set by the RTP. Set a budget first and stop when it is spent. Our penny slots apps guide lists the settings that control stake size.
