Bonanza Megaways app play puts Big Time Gaming’s gold mine slot, with up to 117,649 ways to win, inside a licensed UK casino app. Six reels change height every spin, a horizontal reel adds extra symbols, and winning symbols explode to make room for more, so it is worth knowing how that busy screen behaves on a phone before you stake real money.
Six reels of 2 to 7 symbols plus a horizontal reel, giving up to 117,649 ways, with a published RTP of 96.00%.
Reactions remove winning symbols and drop new ones in, so one paid spin can produce several wins.
Scatters spelling G-O-L-D start free spins, where a win multiplier rises with every reaction.
High volatility; UK versions have no feature buy, no autoplay and stake caps of £5 (25+) or £2 (18–24).

Bonanza Megaways app: how a 117,649-ways slot works on a phone
Bonanza Megaways replaces paylines with ways. Each of the six reels shows between two and seven symbols on any spin, and a horizontal reel above the middle reels adds an extra symbol to each of them. A win needs matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, in any position. Multiply the symbols showing on each reel and you get the number of ways for that spin, which the game displays on screen. When every reel shows seven, the total reaches 117,649.
The game opens inside casino apps that carry Big Time Gaming titles. It uses HTML5, so nothing extra is installed, and your balance and limits are the same as on the casino’s website.
Big Time Gaming and the Megaways engine
Big Time Gaming was founded in 2011 in Sydney, Australia, and created the Megaways mechanic, which it licenses to other studios. Evolution announced its deal to buy the company in April 2021. Bonanza Megaways, with its gold-mining theme, is one of the studio’s best-known games, alongside Extra Chilli Megaways and White Rabbit Megaways. Our Megaways slots apps page explains how other studios use the engine.
The horizontal reel and 7-symbol columns on a small screen
Tall columns are the main challenge on a phone. When a reel shows seven symbols, each one shrinks to fit, and the horizontal reel along the top adds another strip to read. In portrait, the grid sits in the centre with controls below; on a 6-inch screen the symbols remain identifiable, but small details such as wild markings are easier to spot in landscape.
The ways counter usually sits just above or below the grid. It updates every spin and after each reaction, so it is a quick way to see whether a spin has opened up lots of combinations. Our guide on portrait versus landscape slots helps you decide which suits your phone.
How the ways count is calculated
The number of ways to win is the product of the symbols on each reel. A few examples:
Symbols on reels 1 to 6
Ways on that spin
3, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3
729
2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
5,040
5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7
44,100
7 on every reel
117,649
More ways mean more possible combinations, but the stake stays the same, so each individual way is worth less. A high ways count does not mean a spin is more likely to pay well overall; it is part of how the game’s maths spreads outcomes.
Reactions: cascading wins explained
When a win lands, the winning symbols explode and new ones fall into the gaps. If the new symbols create another win, the process repeats. Big Time Gaming calls these reactions; other studios use names such as cascading reels or avalanches. A single paid spin can therefore produce a chain of wins, and you only tap once.
Under UK rules each spin must last at least 2.5 seconds, and reaction animations add to that. A long chain can take several seconds to finish. That is normal, and the result was decided at the start of the spin.
Collecting G-O-L-D for free spins
The free spins round starts when scatter symbols spelling G, O, L and D appear in one spin, including any that arrive during reactions. Landing extra scatters awards more starting spins, and the game’s rules screen lists the exact counts for each combination. A wild symbol can appear on the horizontal reel and substitutes for regular symbols.
Because scatters can fall in during a reaction chain, the bonus sometimes triggers after the reels seem to have settled. Watch the letters along the screen; they light up as each one lands.
The free spins multiplier that keeps climbing
In free spins, every reaction raises a win multiplier by one, and the multiplier does not reset between spins in the round. A bonus with long chains of reactions can therefore build a large multiplier by the final spins. Retriggers are possible by landing scatters again during the round.
This is where most of the game’s value is concentrated, and why its volatility is rated high: many bonuses finish with a small multiplier and a modest total, while a few run much longer.
Playing your first spins in a casino app
In your casino app, type ‘Bonanza’ into the search bar. Several Bonanza-named games exist from different studios, so pick the one with the miner and Big Time Gaming as provider.
Open the game and wait for the loading screen to finish.
Tap the stake control and choose a bet. The app enforces £5 a spin at 25 and over and £2 at 18–24.
Open the menu and read the rules, including the RTP of this version and the scatter table.
Tap spin and let each reaction chain finish before deciding on the next spin.
Check the session figures on screen and stop at the amount you planned.
96.00% RTP and high volatility at UK stakes
The published RTP is 96.00%, so the house edge is 4%. In theory, £100 staked over a very long run returns £96. High volatility means short sessions vary a great deal from that figure: many will end down, some up, and a rare few well up.

Frequently asked questions
How many ways to win does Bonanza Megaways have?
Up to 117,649. The number changes every spin because each of the six reels shows between two and seven symbols, and the horizontal reel adds extra symbols to the middle reels. Multiply the symbols on each reel to get that spin’s total; seven on every reel gives the maximum. The current figure is shown on screen. More ways does not mean more value per spin, because your stake is spread across all of them. Our Megaways glossary entry explains the mechanic in detail.
How do you trigger free spins in Bonanza Megaways?
Land scatter symbols spelling G, O, L and D in a single spin, including any that drop in during a reaction chain. Extra scatters add more starting spins, and the exact counts are listed in the game’s rules screen in your app. During the round, a win multiplier rises by one with every reaction and does not reset between spins. There is no option to buy the round in Great Britain. These game spins are separate from casino offer spins. Our free spins entry explains the difference.
What is the RTP of Bonanza Megaways?
Big Time Gaming publishes an RTP of 96.00%, meaning the game is designed to return £96 for every £100 staked over an extremely long run, with a 4% house edge. That is a little lower than some other Megaways titles, such as Extra Chilli Megaways at 96.19%. Results in a single session can be far from the average, especially with high volatility. Check the rules screen in your casino app for the version you are playing. Our guide on how to find a slot’s RTP in an app shows where.
What is the maximum win on Bonanza Megaways?
Published maximum win figures differ between versions and sources, so we do not quote a single number. The version your casino runs has its maximum set out in the game rules, which you can open from the menu icon inside the game. In practice, the free spins round with its rising multiplier is where large wins come from, and they are rare; most sessions on a high-volatility slot end below the starting balance. See our max win entry for how caps are presented.
Why does Bonanza Megaways take longer per spin on my phone?
UK rules require each slot spin to last at least 2.5 seconds, and Bonanza Megaways adds reaction animations on top. When a win triggers a chain of reactions, the spin keeps going until no new wins form, which can take several seconds. Nothing is wrong with your connection; the result was decided when you tapped spin. If the screen stops moving entirely, close and reopen the game, and the casino should restore the round. Our help page on casino app games that won’t load covers persistent freezes.
Is Bonanza Megaways the same as Big Bass Bonanza Megaways?
No. Bonanza Megaways is a gold mine slot from Big Time Gaming with reactions and a rising free spins multiplier. Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is a Pragmatic Play fishing slot that licenses the Megaways engine and uses a fisherman who collects fish cash values. They share the changing reel heights but have different features, RTPs and maximum wins. Searching ‘Bonanza’ in an app may show both, so check the tile and provider name. Our Big Bass Bonanza Megaways guide covers the fishing version.
Can you use bonus funds on Bonanza Megaways?
It depends on the offer’s eligible games list. Some matched bonuses allow most slots, while others restrict play to selected titles or reduce how much certain games contribute to wagering. Since 19 January 2026, wagering in the UK is capped at 10x. Casumo’s welcome bonus, for instance, is 50% up to £100 on a £20+ first deposit, wagered 10x within 7 days with a £5 maximum bet and game restrictions; it is 18+ and terms apply. Our wagering requirements guide explains how contributions work.
Does Bonanza Megaways work on older phones?
It should run on most phones able to install a current casino app, since it is built in HTML5. The reaction animations and tall reels are fairly demanding, so an older handset may load slowly or stutter in long chains. Close background apps, keep the casino app updated, and use Wi-Fi for the first load, which downloads most of the artwork. Results are identical on any device. Our casino apps for older phones guide has more ways to keep games running smoothly.
