The Medusa Megaways app experience comes through UK-licensed casino apps: NextGen's Greek-myth slot loads from the lobby, with no separate download. This guide explains how six changing reels and a top reel fit a phone, how cascades work, why the free spins multiplier never resets, what 96.28% RTP and high volatility cost over time, and the UK rules on stakes.
Medusa Megaways is a NextGen slot with six reels, a horizontal top reel and up to 117,649 ways.

Medusa Megaways app: who makes it and where it lives
Medusa Megaways comes from NextGen, a slot studio that passed into the NYX group and then to Scientific Games, the company now called Light & Wonder. That's why some lobbies list it under NextGen and others under Light & Wonder. Either way, the game is supplied to licensed casinos and played inside their apps, not downloaded on its own. Our Light & Wonder page covers the wider group's mobile slots.
The game takes the classic Megaways structure and adds a Greek-myth setting, with Medusa herself as the wild. If you've played Bonanza Megaways, the layout will feel familiar: six main reels, a horizontal reel across the top and cascading wins.
Six reels and a top reel on a phone screen
The horizontal top reel sits above the four middle reels and adds one extra symbol to each of them. Together with reel heights that change every spin, that makes a dense grid. On a phone held upright, the whole block typically fits across the screen width with the controls below, but individual symbols are small when reels are at their tallest. Many players switch to landscape, where the grid gets more height to work with.

Cascades and multiplier animations make this a busier game than a classic 5×3, so expect a bit more battery use and warmth on older phones. Our casino app speed and performance guide lists settings that help.
How wins and cascades work
Ways are worked out by multiplying the number of symbols visible on each of the six reels. At the maximum, with seven on every reel, that's 117,649 ways to win. Wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, in any position on each reel.
After a win, the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in. This is the cascading reels mechanic. If the new symbols form another win, it pays and the process repeats, so one spin can carry a chain of wins. Medusa is the wild and substitutes for everything except the scatter. Scatters don't pay through ways; their job is to trigger the bonus.
Open the casino app, tap Search and type "Medusa Megaways".
Load the game and open the info menu to read the rules and the RTP your casino runs.
Pick a total stake; the stake control won't go above £5 (25+) or £2 (18–24).
Tap Spin. Cascades play out automatically within the round.
Watch the total win figure update after each cascade before the next spin.
Medusa Megaways free spins and the unlimited multiplier
Three or more scatters trigger free spins. During the round, a win multiplier increases with every cascade. It carries over from one free spin to the next and has no published upper limit. A free spin with no win leaves it unchanged rather than resetting it.

The game's paytable shows how many free spins each scatter count awards and the exact way the multiplier steps up. Long cascade chains in free spins are where the 50,000x ceiling comes into view, and they're rare.
RTP of 96.28% and high volatility in practice
The published RTP is 96.28%, though some listings refer to another setting, so the number in your app's info screen is the one that counts. How to find a slot's RTP in an app shows where to tap. At 96.28%, the theoretical long-run cost is £3.72 for every £100 staked.
High volatility with a 50,000x ceiling means the game's return is heavily weighted towards rare outcomes. Most sessions consist of small cascades and losing spins. If you bring £40 and stake 40p, you have 100 spins of cover without a win, which at UK spin speeds lasts a little over four minutes. A loss limit set in the app before you play is a simple safeguard.
Medusa Megaways max win of 50,000x
The cap is 50,000 times your stake. At 10p, that's £5,000; at £1, £50,000; and at the £5 UK maximum for players 25 and over, £250,000. For 18-to-24-year-olds capped at £2, the ceiling is £100,000. The figure is very high for a Megaways game, which reflects the uncapped multiplier, but it's a theoretical limit that very few rounds approach. Our large wins on casino apps page explains what happens if a big win does land, including extra checks.
UK rules for Medusa Megaways
In Great Britain, the game runs under the same rules as every online slot. Stakes are capped at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for 18 to 24s. Autoplay and turbo have been off since October 2021, each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, and your balance and net position stay on screen. Feature buys aren't offered, so the free spins only come from landing scatters. Demo play needs age verification. See UK stake limits on mobile slots for dates and details.
Medusa Megaways demo play
After age verification, some apps offer a demo version, which is handy for watching how cascades and the free spins multiplier work. Remember that demo credits have no value and the RTP may differ. If you can't find a demo button, our demo mode glossary entry explains the UK rules.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download a Medusa Megaways app?
No, there's no official standalone Medusa Megaways app. NextGen's games are distributed to licensed casinos, which run them inside their own apps and mobile sites. To play, install a UK-licensed casino app from the App Store or Google Play, log in and search the lobby for the game. Treat any store app promising real-money Medusa Megaways without a licensed casino behind it with suspicion. Our casino app safety guide explains what to check before installing.
How does the Medusa Megaways top reel work?
The top reel runs horizontally above reels 2 to 5 and adds one extra symbol to each of those four reels. Those symbols count towards ways and wins just like the symbols on the main reels. When a cascade removes a winning symbol from the top reel, a replacement fills the gap. The top reel is part of why the maximum ways reach 117,649. Our mobile slot features explained guide covers similar mechanics in other Megaways games.
How do free spins work in Medusa Megaways?
Three or more scatter symbols trigger free spins. During the round, a win multiplier increases with every cascade, carries over between spins and doesn't reset, even after a spin with no win. There's no published upper limit on the multiplier. The number of free spins for each scatter count is shown in the game's paytable. Free spins can't be bought in Great Britain. Our free spins glossary entry explains how in-game free spins differ from casino offers.
What is the RTP of Medusa Megaways?
The published RTP is 96.28%, which means a theoretical long-run return of £96.28 for every £100 staked. Some listings mention another RTP setting, so the figure inside your casino's version of the game is the one that applies. You'll find it in the rules or information screen. RTP is an average over a very large number of spins and doesn't predict a single session. Our RTP range glossary entry explains why slots come in several versions.
What is the max win on Medusa Megaways?
The maximum win is 50,000 times your stake. At the UK maximum stake of £5 for players aged 25 and over, that would be £250,000, and at a 20p stake it would be £10,000. The high cap reflects the free spins multiplier, which has no published limit. Very few rounds come anywhere near it, and the house edge applies throughout. Our max win glossary entry explains how game caps work and what happens when a round reaches one.
Who makes Medusa Megaways?
Medusa Megaways was made by NextGen, a slot studio that became part of the NYX group and later Scientific Games, which renamed itself Light & Wonder in 2022. That's why casino apps sometimes list the game under NextGen and sometimes under Light & Wonder. The Megaways mechanic itself is licensed from Big Time Gaming. If a provider filter doesn't show it, search by name instead. Our Light & Wonder page covers the group's mobile slots.
Is Medusa Megaways good for small screens?
It works on small screens, but the grid is dense. With six reels of up to seven symbols plus a top reel, symbols can look small in portrait on phones of about 6 inches or less. Turning to landscape gives the grid more height and makes cascades easier to follow. Increasing screen brightness and closing background apps also help. Our casino apps for small screen phones page has general advice for compact handsets.
Does the Medusa Megaways multiplier reset?
Not during free spins. The multiplier rises with each cascade, carries over from one free spin to the next and stays where it is after a losing spin, so it can keep building for the whole round. The paytable shows the exact steps in your casino's version. Our multiplier glossary entry explains different multiplier types.
