The Gemix app experience is Play’n GO’s 2014 crystal-themed cluster slot, played inside a licensed UK casino app on your iPhone or Android phone. Clusters of five or more matching gems win on a 7x7 grid, and a Crystal Charge meter fires board-changing effects. Here is how the game works, how it looks in portrait, and what to check before you stake real money.
Gemix is a Play’n GO cluster pays slot on a 7x7 grid: five or more matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically form a win.
Wins fill a Crystal Charge meter that triggers one of four random effects, and clearing patterns moves you through three worlds.
The top published RTP is 96.83%, but lower versions exist, so check the rules screen in your app.
Volatility is medium, which suits players who prefer steadier sessions over rare large results.

Gemix app: what you are actually playing
Gemix is a grid slot released by Play’n GO on 1 December 2014. It predates many of the cluster games now common in UK casino apps, and it has stayed in lobbies because its mechanics are unusual: instead of a scatter-triggered free spins round, the game is built around a charge meter, a set of patterns to clear and three themed worlds, each with its own special effect.
There is no standalone Gemix app. You load it inside a real-money casino app from a UK-licensed operator, or in that casino’s mobile website. Either way it uses your casino balance and account limits. For more on how Play’n GO’s games behave on phones, see our Play’n GO provider page.
The 7x7 grid on an iPhone or Android screen
Forty-nine symbols is a lot for a phone display, but Gemix uses bold, distinctly coloured crystals that stay readable even on a compact handset. In portrait the square grid sits in the centre with the charge meter close by and the spin and stake controls underneath. Landscape adds space around the grid but does not make the symbols much bigger, because the grid is square.
Because Gemix is a 2014 design, its presentation is simpler than many newer slots. That has a practical upside on mobile: it tends to load quickly and runs comfortably on older or budget phones. Our page on casino apps for budget Android phones explains what else affects performance.

How to play Gemix in a casino app
Open the casino app and search for Gemix. Check the tile shows Play’n GO, since there is also a sequel with a similar name.
Tap the tile and let the game load. On first launch it may ask to rotate or confirm sound.
Open the menu and read the paytable, which shows payouts for clusters of different sizes.
Choose a stake with the bet control. Your app limits it to £5 per spin if you are 25 or over and £2 if you are 18–24.
Tap Spin. Clusters of five or more matching symbols that touch horizontally or vertically pay, then disappear.
New symbols drop into the gaps and the cascade continues until no further cluster forms.
Diagonal contact does not count, which is the most common source of confusion for new players. Our cluster pays entry shows examples of valid and invalid shapes.
Crystal Charge: the four effects explained
Every win during a round adds to the Crystal Charge meter. When the meter is full and the cascades have stopped, one of four effects fires at random. Each one changes symbols on the grid with the aim of creating new clusters.
Effect
What happens on the grid
Chain Lightning
Electrical arcs run from two opposite corner symbols and turn the symbols they hit into the corner symbol
Light Beam
Rays shoot along a row and a column from one symbol, transforming the symbols they cross
Crystal Warp
A chosen symbol and all its matches are warped into other symbols
Nova Blast
A selected symbol explodes and removes its neighbours, leaving a core of one matching symbol
Super Charge
If you win on enough extra symbols to fill the meter a second time before the cascades end, Super Charge multiplies that round’s wins by three. It can only happen once per round. On a phone, Super Charge is easy to spot because the meter display changes and the round total updates with the boost applied.
Patterns and the three Gemix worlds
Each world has three patterns, shown as highlighted positions on the grid. Winning on those positions clears them. Clear one pattern and the next activates; clear all three and you move to the next world and collect the World Bonus, which grows with any win made during a round.
Miner’s world: wild symbols drop from the top of the grid, up to 10 at a time.
Princess’ world: a chosen edge symbol turns wild and spreads into neighbouring symbols until it reaches an edge.
Wizard’s world: up to eight sticky wilds appear. They do not drop or vanish in wins, and stay for one round or until a Crystal Charge fires.
Read the help screen in your version for how pattern progress is stored, as it is the most practical detail for anyone who plays in short sessions on a commute. Our wild symbol and sticky wild entries explain the wild types used here.
Gemix RTP and volatility in real money terms
Play’n GO’s highest published RTP for Gemix is 96.83%, which in theory returns £96.83 for every £100 staked over a very long run, a long-run cost of £3.17 per £100. The studio also supplies lower versions, and casinos choose which one to run. The game’s rules screen shows the live figure; our guide to high RTP slots apps explains why that check matters.
Volatility is medium. Compared with high-volatility grid games, you can expect smaller wins to arrive more often, with fewer long dry spells, though losing sessions are still common. As an example, a £20 budget at 20p per spin gives 100 paid spins before any wins are counted, which takes at least four minutes under the UK’s 2.5-second spin rule.

UK rules that apply when you play Gemix
Gemix follows the same Gambling Commission requirements as every slot in Great Britain. Autoplay is unavailable, spins take at least 2.5 seconds, and there is no turbo option. The stake cap is £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24. Your balance and net position are always on show, and a return smaller than your stake is not celebrated as a win. The free demo is only available once your age is verified. See UK stake limits on mobile slots for details.

Reactoonz is Play’n GO’s best-known successor to Gemix, with a similar charge meter but higher volatility. Sugar Rush adds multiplier spots to a 7x7 grid. Honey Rush moves the cluster idea onto hexagons. If you want a calmer session, Gemix’s medium volatility sets it apart from all three.

Frequently asked questions
Is there a Gemix app I can download?
No, Play’n GO does not release Gemix as its own app. You play it inside a real-money casino app from a UK-licensed operator, or through that casino’s mobile site in your browser. The game loads within the app and uses your casino balance, limits and verification. Any app claiming to be a standalone real-money Gemix game should be treated with caution. Our guide on how to download casino apps explains how to find genuine apps on the App Store and Google Play.
How do you win on Gemix?
You win by forming a cluster of five or more matching symbols that touch horizontally or vertically on the 7x7 grid. Diagonal contact does not count. Winning symbols disappear, new symbols fall into the gaps, and the cascade continues until no new cluster appears. Wins also fill the Crystal Charge meter, which can trigger one of four grid-changing effects. Bigger clusters pay more, as shown in the paytable. Our cluster pays entry has examples of valid shapes.
What is the RTP of Gemix?
The highest published RTP for Gemix is 96.83%, but Play’n GO supplies lower versions and casinos pick which to use. To see the figure for your app, open the game, tap the menu or information icon and read the rules. RTP is an average across a very large number of spins, so it describes the game over time rather than any one session. Our guide to finding a slot’s RTP in an app shows exactly where to look on a phone.
Does Gemix have free spins?
Gemix is built around its Crystal Charge meter, patterns and worlds rather than a standard scatter-triggered free spins round. Its special effects come from filling the charge meter and from the world you are in, such as dropping wilds or sticky wilds. If you specifically want free spins, many newer cluster slots include them. Separately, casino welcome offers sometimes give free spins on selected games, which may or may not include Gemix. Our free spins entry explains the difference.
What does Super Charge do in Gemix?
Super Charge multiplies the wins from a round by three. It triggers when you win on enough extra symbols to fill the Crystal Charge meter fully a second time before the cascades end. It can only happen once per round. Because it depends on long chains of cascading wins, it is relatively rare. The in-game rules explain the exact conditions, and our multiplier entry covers how multipliers are applied in slots generally.
Can I play Gemix on an older phone?
In most cases, yes. Gemix is a 2014 game with relatively simple graphics, so it tends to run well even on older iPhones and budget Android handsets, provided the casino’s app or mobile site supports your phone’s operating system. If the app no longer installs on an older device, the mobile website runs the same game. Clearing the browser or app cache can help if loading stalls. Our older phones guide covers what to try.
Is Gemix high or low volatility?
Gemix is medium volatility. That means wins tend to come more often but at smaller sizes than high-volatility games such as Reactoonz or Sugar Rush, though losing streaks still happen and losing sessions are common. Medium volatility suits players who want a session to last a little longer on a fixed budget. Volatility describes how results are spread, not whether you will win. Our volatility entry explains the idea with examples.
What is the maximum bet on Gemix in the UK?
The maximum stake is £5 per spin if you are 25 or older and £2 per spin if you are aged 18 to 24. These limits come from UK Gambling Commission rules covering all online slots, and the casino applies them automatically based on your verified age. There is no way to raise them. Lower stakes give more spins from the same budget, which suits a medium-volatility game. Read our casino app maximum stake page for more.
Can I try Gemix for free?
Many UK casino apps offer a demo version of Gemix, but only after you have verified your age. This has been required since 2019, so you will need an account even to use play credits. Demo play has no cash value and you cannot win prizes, but it is a sensible way to learn how Crystal Charge and the worlds work before risking money. Our free slots apps page explains what demo options exist on mobile.
