Monzo and casino apps work together in the ordinary way: Monzo issues a Mastercard debit card, and licensed UK casino apps accept it like any other debit card, either typed in or through Apple Pay or Google Pay. What sets Monzo apart is control. Its instant notifications, Pots and gambling block make it easier to see and limit what goes in.
Monzo cards are Mastercard debit cards, so they go through a casino app's normal debit card option.
Winnings return to the Monzo card you deposited with; published card payout times vary by app.
Monzo Flex and overdrafts are credit, and credit can't be used to gamble in Great Britain.
Monzo's gambling block stops card payments to gambling merchants, and switching it off isn't instant.

Monzo and casino apps: the short answer
Monzo works with licensed UK casino apps because its card is a Mastercard debit card. A casino's payment provider doesn't need a special arrangement with Monzo. It processes the payment through the Mastercard network and Monzo approves or refuses it.
There isn't usually a Monzo button in a cashier, and you don't need one. Choose Debit card, or Apple Pay or Google Pay if your Monzo card is in your phone's wallet. Some apps also offer pay by bank, which can take money straight from your Monzo account through open banking.
One condition applies everywhere: the Monzo account must be in your name, matching the casino account. Casinos refuse cards belonging to someone else, including a partner's or a parent's, and joint accounts can lead to extra questions during verification.
What a casino deposit looks like from the Monzo side
Within a second or two of a deposit, Monzo sends a push notification with the amount and merchant. The merchant name is often the licence holder or payment processor rather than the app's brand. For example, Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so an unfamiliar company name in your feed doesn't necessarily mean something has gone wrong.
Monzo groups card spending into categories and lets you search your feed. For gambling, that makes it simple to total a month's deposits: search the merchant, add up the amounts, and compare the total with the history inside the casino app. Our guide to how casino payments show on bank statements explains the naming in more depth.

Paying into a casino app from Monzo, step by step
In the casino app, tap Deposit (often a plus sign or the balance at the top of the screen).
Pick Debit card, or Apple Pay or Google Pay if your Monzo card is saved in your wallet.
For a typed card, open Monzo's card tab to view the card number, expiry date and security code, then enter them in the casino's form.
Choose an amount that fits the budget you've set; the cashier shows the minimum and any limits you set yourself.
If a security check appears, approve the payment in the Monzo app, then go back to the casino app.
Confirm the balance has updated and the Monzo notification shows the same amount.
On iPhone, Apple Pay skips the card form entirely: you double-press the side button and confirm with Face ID. On Android, Google Pay asks for your screen lock or fingerprint. In both cases the casino receives a device token, not your full card number, which is one reason many people prefer a phone wallet for Apple Pay casino apps and their Android equivalents.
Using Monzo Pots to keep a gambling budget separate
Monzo's Pots let you move money out of your main balance into separate pots. By default, card payments come out of the main balance rather than money set aside in pots. That gives you a simple way to cap gambling spending without relying only on willpower.
Keep bills and essentials in pots so they can't be spent through the card by accident.
Leave only the month's entertainment money in the main balance and top it up on a fixed day, not mid-session.
Set a matching deposit limit in each casino app, so the limit holds even if you top up your main balance.
Look at the total once a week, not after each session, so that one result doesn't change your plans.
Treat any money paid into a casino app as spent. Every game has a house edge, so over time you should expect to lose, and a budget only works if it's money you can afford to lose. Our guide to setting a gambling budget on your phone combines bank and app tools in one plan.
Getting casino winnings back into Monzo
When you withdraw, UK casinos usually return money to the card you deposited with, under closed-loop rules. The payout shows in Monzo as an incoming entry against the merchant. How long it takes depends first on the casino's internal approval and then on the card route.

First withdrawals are slower when the casino still needs ID, so verify early. If a payout sits as pending, our withdrawal pending guide walks through the reasons. UK casinos can't let you cancel a withdrawal to keep playing: reverse withdrawals have been banned since 31 October 2021.
Monzo Flex, overdrafts and the UK credit card ban
Since 14 April 2020, gambling businesses in Great Britain can't accept credit cards, either directly or through a wallet or e-wallet funded by one. Monzo Flex is a credit product, so it isn't a route for gambling. An arranged overdraft is also borrowing. A casino can't see whether a debit card payment is covered by your overdraft, but paying for gambling with borrowed money adds cost and risk.
If you notice that you're relying on an overdraft or credit to keep playing, take that seriously. The National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free and open 24/7, and GAMSTOP lets you exclude yourself from every licensed online casino at once.
How Monzo's gambling block fits with casino apps
Monzo was one of the first UK banks to offer a gambling block. When it's on, Monzo refuses card payments to merchants coded as gambling, so a deposit attempt in a casino app fails at the bank before any money moves. You switch it on inside the Monzo app, and it applies straight away. Turning it off isn't instant: Monzo builds in a waiting period, so check the in-app help for the current length.
A card block can't catch everything. Payment routes that don't look like gambling card payments, such as some bank transfers or crypto bought elsewhere, may get through. Pair it with GAMSTOP and app-store restrictions. Our comparison of bank gambling blocks shows how the main UK banks differ, and our Starling Bank page covers another bank's version.
Do Monzo deposits count for welcome offers?
Offer terms list excluded methods, not banks, so the answer depends on how each casino treats a Mastercard debit card. Here's how our partners' published conditions apply to a standard Monzo card.

Ladbrokes' spins are 10p each, 50 a day for 10 days, claimed from the app inbox before 23:59 each day and valid for 7 days, with no wagering. Our payment method exclusions page explains why these lists exist.
Some casino apps offer a bank payment that opens the Monzo app for approval instead of asking for card details. Coral and Ladbrokes list Pay by Bank through TrueLayer with a £5 minimum, and Casumo lists Trustly and Instant Banking. The money moves as a bank payment, so it may not show as a card transaction, and whether a card-based gambling block covers it depends on your bank. Our pay by bank casino apps page explains the flow.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Monzo to deposit in a casino app?
Yes, as long as the casino is licensed in the UK and accepts Mastercard debit, which almost all do. Choose the debit card option and enter your Monzo card details, or pay through Apple Pay or Google Pay if the card is in your wallet. The account must be in your own name. Monzo can refuse the payment if you've turned on its gambling block. Our debit card casino apps page compares how card deposits work across apps.
How long do casino withdrawals take to reach Monzo?
It varies by casino, from a few hours to a few working days after approval. Casumo publishes up to two days for card payouts after approval, and 10bet publishes up to two business days for debit cards. Coral and Ladbrokes publish fast times for Visa Fast Funds, which doesn't cover a Monzo Mastercard, so check their cashier for the Mastercard estimate. A first withdrawal can take longer while ID is checked. See how long casino app withdrawals take for detail.
Does Monzo block gambling?
Only if you turn the block on. Monzo's gambling block is an optional setting in the app that refuses card payments to merchants coded as gambling. It applies as soon as you switch it on. Switching it off involves a waiting period, which is meant to give you time to reconsider. Without the block, Monzo processes casino deposits like any other card payment. For stronger protection, combine it with GAMSTOP self-exclusion and app-store controls on your phone.
Why was my Monzo casino deposit declined?
The most common reasons are the gambling block, too little money in the main balance (money set aside in Pots isn't normally used for card payments), or a limit on the casino side. Look at the Monzo notification first: if Monzo declined it, the feed usually says so. If there's no Monzo entry, the casino or its processor refused it, often because of your own deposit limit or a payment-method cap. Our deposit declined guide lists every common cause.
Can I use Monzo Flex for gambling?
No. Monzo Flex is a credit product, and UK rules have banned gambling with credit since 14 April 2020. The ban covers credit cards used directly and credit used through wallets or e-wallets. Only money from your own current account balance is appropriate for a casino deposit. If you find yourself wanting to borrow to gamble, contact the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 for free, confidential help. Our UK casino app rules page lists the payment rules in one place.
Do Monzo deposits qualify for casino bonuses?
Often yes, but it depends on each offer's payment terms. Ladbrokes' named exclusions (prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers) don't include a standard Monzo debit card. Coral excludes "certain debit cards" without naming them, so check before relying on Monzo there. All offers are for over-18s, and terms apply. If in doubt, ask live chat before depositing and keep a screenshot. Our £10 deposit casino apps page covers the offers that start at that level.
Will casino transactions on Monzo affect a mortgage application?
They can be noticed. Lenders often ask for recent bank statements, and regular gambling transactions may prompt questions about spending. A casino payment isn't a credit record, but it is visible in your statement history. The practical step is to keep gambling spending small, steady and within a set budget. Our guide to affordability checks on casino apps explains the related checks casinos carry out, which work from the same kind of evidence.
Can I pay a casino app from Monzo without using my card?
Yes, where the casino offers pay by bank. You choose the bank option in the cashier, pick Monzo, approve the payment in the Monzo app and return to the casino. Coral and Ladbrokes list Pay by Bank through TrueLayer with a £5 minimum, while Casumo lists Trustly and Instant Banking. These go through open banking rather than the card network. Read our open banking glossary entry to see how the authorisation works.
Is it safe to save my Monzo card in a casino app?
With a UKGC-licensed app downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, saving the card is generally as safe as saving it with any large retailer. The operator must protect payment data, and a phone wallet adds a layer because the casino holds only a token. Turn on Face ID or a strong passcode on the casino app, and freeze the card in Monzo if your phone is lost. Our casino app security guide covers the settings to check.
