Starling Bank and casino apps work together through Starling's Mastercard debit card, which licensed UK casino apps accept through their normal card, Apple Pay or Google Pay options. Starling also gives you gambling controls in its own app. They block card payments to most gambling merchants, and a 48-hour delay applies when you try to switch them off.
A Starling debit card goes through a casino app's ordinary debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay option.
Starling's gambling controls sit under Cards in its app and cover card payments to most gambling merchants.
Switching the block off has a 48-hour delay, and each Starling card needs its own block.
Withdrawals go back to the card you deposited with; published payout times differ between casinos.

Does Starling Bank work with casino apps?
Yes. Starling issues Mastercard debit cards, and UK-licensed casino apps accept Mastercard debit through their card option. You won't see a Starling logo in the cashier. Enter the card under Debit card, or pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay if the card is in your phone's wallet.
Starling's main difference from other banks is the set of controls around the card. Its gambling controls let you block card payments to gambling merchants, and a 48-hour delay applies when you remove the block. If you're reading this because you want to stop, that section is the place to start. If you're planning to deposit, it's still worth knowing the controls are there.
The usual UK rules still apply: the card must be in your name, credit can't be used to gamble, and the casino will ask for proof of identity before paying out.
Starling's gambling controls explained
Starling's help page puts the gambling block under Cards, then Gambling controls. Once it's on, Starling declines card payments to most gambling merchants, both online and in person. Starling says the block may not cover every gambling-related payment, so treat it as one layer of protection rather than a complete barrier.
Situation
What happens
Block on, you try a casino app card deposit
Starling declines it before money leaves your account
Block on, you pay with Apple Pay or Google Pay
The wallet uses your Starling card, so the same block applies
You switch the block off
It doesn't lift straight away: a 48-hour delay applies
You hold more than one Starling account
Each card needs its own block
Payment not coded as gambling
May not be caught; Starling says coverage isn't complete
The 48-hour delay is the important part. Urges to gamble often pass, and a two-day wait stands between the decision to unblock and the ability to deposit. Starling added the delay for that reason.
Setting up the Starling gambling block, step by step
Open the Starling app and sign in with your passcode, Face ID or fingerprint.
Tap Cards at the bottom of the screen.
Choose Gambling controls.
Switch the gambling block on and confirm.
Repeat for every Starling card you hold, including cards on any other Starling account.
Add GAMSTOP and app-store limits so the block isn't your only protection.
If you're struggling with gambling, the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 is free, confidential and open 24/7. GamCare and NHS gambling clinics also offer help.
Paying into a casino app with a Starling card
With the block off, a deposit works like any other debit card payment. In the casino app, tap the balance or Deposit, choose the card option, and enter the 16-digit number, expiry and security code shown in Starling's card screen. Online payments may ask you to approve in the Starling app. On iPhone, that means a notification, a tap, then a return to the casino app through the app switcher.
Phone wallets are quicker. If your Starling card is in Apple Wallet, choose Apple Pay and confirm with Face ID or Touch ID. On Android, choose Google Pay and confirm with your fingerprint or screen lock. The casino receives a device token instead of the card number.
Minimums and caps come from the casino, not Starling. Casumo's minimum is £10 for all methods. Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum for Google Pay and Pay by Bank, and a £2,000 maximum per deposit for UK customers. For your first payment, our first deposit guide covers setting limits before you pay.
Starling Spaces, Budget Planner and Spending Insights
Starling's support page on gambling points to its Budget Planner and Spending Insights as tools for tracking and limiting spending. Spaces, Starling's way of setting money aside, works for this too: money moved into a Space sits apart from the balance your card spends from.
Use Spending Insights to see the monthly total paid to casino merchants.
Use the Budget Planner to set an entertainment budget, and keep gambling inside it rather than adding to it.
Move rent, bills and savings into Spaces before payday spending starts.
Match the bank budget with a deposit limit inside every casino app you use.
None of these tools changes the house edge. Casino games are designed to return less than is staked over time, so a budget is the amount you're prepared to lose for entertainment, not a target to win back.
Withdrawing casino winnings to Starling
Casino withdrawals in the UK normally follow the deposit route back, so a Starling card deposit means a Starling card payout. The casino first approves the request, and then the card network delivers it. Published times from our partners are shown below as typical, not promised.

Personal, joint and business Starling accounts
Casinos must make sure the payment method belongs to the account holder. A personal Starling card in your own name is the straightforward choice. A joint account card in your name usually works, but the second name on statements can prompt questions if you're asked for source of funds evidence.
Don't use a business account for personal gambling. Apart from mixing business and personal money, the account name won't match your casino profile, and the payment is likely to be refused or questioned during checks.

No partner offer we summarise names Starling, so it comes down to how each one treats debit cards. All offers are for new customers aged 18+, and terms apply.

It also lists the National Gambling Helpline, run by GamCare, on 0808 8020 133. If you're worried about your gambling, these options sit alongside GAMSTOP and the tools in our safer gambling guide.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Starling Bank for online casinos?
Yes, with any UK-licensed casino app that accepts Mastercard debit, which is almost all of them. Choose the debit card option or pay through Apple Pay or Google Pay with your Starling card saved in your wallet. The card must be in the same name as your casino account. If the gambling controls in the Starling app are on, the payment will be declined. Our debit card casino apps page explains card deposits in more detail.
How do I block gambling on Starling?
Open the Starling app, tap Cards, choose Gambling controls and switch the block on. Starling then declines card payments to most gambling merchants, online and in person. If you have more than one Starling account, set the block on each card. Starling notes that the block may not catch every gambling payment, so add GAMSTOP and phone-level restrictions too. Our guides to blocking gambling apps on iPhone and Android show how to do that.
How long does it take to turn off Starling's gambling block?
Removing the block doesn't take effect straight away: Starling applies a 48-hour delay. That means a decision to unblock can't lead to a deposit for two days, which gives you time to reconsider. The block itself works as soon as you turn it on. Starling designed the delay to make impulsive gambling harder. If you want to reverse a block because you feel an urge to play, that's a good moment to call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133.
Does Starling's block stop Apple Pay casino deposits?
Yes, in normal use. Apple Pay and Google Pay charge the Starling card stored in your wallet, so the payment still reaches Starling as a card transaction to a gambling merchant, and the block applies. Starling says coverage isn't total, because a small number of gambling payments may not be coded as gambling. Payment routes that don't use the card, such as some bank transfers, behave differently. Our page on bank gambling blocks and apps compares the gaps.
How long do casino withdrawals to Starling take?
That depends on the casino's approval and its payout route, usually somewhere from a few hours to a few working days. Casumo publishes up to two days for card payouts and 10bet up to two business days for debit cards. Coral and Ladbrokes publish Visa Fast Funds times, which don't apply to a Starling Mastercard, so check their cashier. First payouts can take longer while ID is checked. Our how to withdraw from casino apps guide covers each step.
Do Starling deposits count for casino welcome bonuses?
Usually, but always check the offer's payment terms. Ladbrokes excludes prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers, and a standard Starling debit card isn't on that list. Coral excludes "certain debit cards" without naming them, so ask support first. PlayOJO and 10bet show no payment exclusions in the terms we summarise. All offers are for over-18s, and terms apply. Our debit card casino app bonus page has more on card-qualifying offers.
Can I use a Starling business account at a casino?
You shouldn't. Casinos must check that the payment method belongs to the person who owns the gambling account. A business account is in the company's name, so it won't match your profile, and the deposit is likely to be refused or flagged. It also mixes business money with personal spending, which causes problems with accounts and tax records. Use a personal account in your own name. Our KYC entry explains how casinos match people to payments.
Is a Starling card safe to use in casino apps?
In a UKGC-licensed app from the App Store or Google Play, it's as safe as any debit card payment. The operator must protect payment data, and Starling adds controls you can use from your phone, such as freezing the card and approving online payments in its app. A phone wallet adds tokenisation, so the casino never stores the real card number. Avoid sites that aren't on the UKGC register, whatever payment method they ask for.
Gambling can be addictive. Free, confidential help is available 24 hours a day from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. Get support from GamCare or NHS gambling support, or block yourself from all UK-licensed gambling sites with GAMSTOP.
