A casino app welcome bonus is a one-off offer for new customers, usually free spins after a £10 deposit or slots stake, or a percentage match on your first deposit. In the UK it is the same offer in the app and on the website, wagering is capped at 10x, and the details that decide its value sit in the terms rather than the headline. 18+, T&Cs apply.
Welcome bonuses on UK casino apps come in three shapes: spins for a slots stake, spins for a deposit, and a matched deposit.
Since 19 January 2026 wagering can’t exceed 10x, and spins-based offers from our partners carry no wagering at all.
Your deposit method can cost you the bonus: PayPal, Skrill, Neteller and prepaid cards are excluded from several offers.
The app and website offer is identical; the app only changes how you accept spins and track progress.

What a casino app welcome bonus actually is
A welcome bonus is the reward a licensed casino gives you once, when you open an account and make your first qualifying deposit or bet. On a phone it arrives inside the app: a pop-up, an inbox message or a new balance line in the cashier. It is not a gift. Every version has a trigger (money you put in or stake), a value (spins or bonus cash), and conditions (expiry, eligible games, sometimes wagering requirements).
The most common misunderstanding is that the app has its own, better deal. It doesn’t. A casino app is a front end to the same account as the website, so the balance, limits, verification and bonus are shared. The do casino apps have different bonuses page explains the rare exceptions, which tend to be short-lived promotions for existing customers rather than sign-up offers.
Treat any welcome bonus as a discount on entertainment you would have paid for anyway. The house edge still applies to every spin, losses are the likely outcome over time, and a bonus doesn’t change that maths. What it can do is give you more play for the same £10.
The three welcome bonus types on UK casino apps
Almost every new-player deal in the UK now falls into one of three shapes. Seeing which one you are looking at tells you most of what you need to know about its value.

Spin offers are simple: the stake per spin is fixed, the games are chosen for you, and with our partners anything you win is cash. A matched deposit gives you more flexibility over games and stakes but puts a playthrough target between you and a withdrawal. The free spins vs bonus cash guide goes deeper on that trade-off.
How the 2026 UK rules reshaped welcome bonuses
Two Gambling Commission changes took effect on 19 January 2026. First, wagering on any bonus is capped at 10x. Offers that once asked for 35x or 50x the bonus have disappeared from licensed UK apps. Second, promotions that mix products are banned, so a casino can no longer say ‘bet £10 on football and get 50 casino spins’. A casino welcome bonus now has to be earned on casino play.
Older rules still shape the experience too. Slot spins take at least 2.5 seconds, there is no autoplay or turbo, and stakes are limited to £5 a spin if you are 25 or over and £2 if you are 18 to 24. Credit cards can’t be used to deposit, including through Apple Pay or PayPal when the wallet is funded by a credit card. The 2026 rule changes guide sets out each one with dates.
If an app or website advertises a UK welcome bonus with wagering above 10x, or a casino bonus unlocked by a sports bet, treat it as out of date or as a site that isn’t licensed for Great Britain.
Working out what a welcome bonus is worth in pounds
Headline numbers are hard to compare until you convert them into money. Multiply spins by spin value, then think about what you have to do to get at any winnings.
Coral: 100 spins × 10p = £10 of spins for a £10 slots bet. Winnings are cash.
Ladbrokes: 50 spins × 10p = £5 a day. Claim on all 10 days and that is 500 spins, or £50 of spins, for one £10 slots spend.
PlayOJO: 80 spins × 10p = £8 of spins on Big Bass Bonanza for a £10 first deposit, winnings paid as cash.
Casumo: deposit £20, get £10 bonus, then wager £100 (10 × £10) within 7 days. Deposit £200 and you get the full £100 bonus, which needs £1,000 of wagering.
10bet: deposit £25, get £25 bonus, then wager £250 on slots within 3 days. Bonus winnings are capped at £1,000.
Spin value is the start, not the end. A slot with 96% return to player returns about £9.60 for every £10 staked over a very long run, and a short session swings widely around that. On a match bonus, the wagering target is where most of the cost hides: £250 of slot play at a 4% house edge costs about £10 on average, and can cost far more on a bad run. Return to player and volatility explain why two players with the same bonus finish so differently.
How to claim a casino app welcome bonus, step by step
The order of actions matters more than speed. Most missed bonuses come from depositing with an excluded method or forgetting an opt-in, not from any fault in the app.
Download the casino’s app from the App Store or Google Play and check the developer name matches the licence holder.
Open the offer page or promotions tab and read the key terms before registering, especially excluded payment methods and the opt-in rule.
Register with your real details. Age and identity checks happen before you can play, so keep a photo ID nearby in case documents are requested.
If the offer needs an opt-in or a selection at sign-up (Casumo and 10bet), make it now; it can’t be added after the deposit.
Deposit the qualifying amount with an eligible debit card or another method the terms allow.
Meet the trigger: a £10 slots stake for Coral and Ladbrokes, the deposit itself for PlayOJO, or nothing further for a match bonus.
Accept the spins from the pop-up or inbox, or check the bonus balance in the cashier, and note the expiry time on your phone.
Excluded payment methods are the single most common reason a welcome bonus fails. Casinos exclude some e-wallets and prepaid products because they have historically been used to open several accounts for the same bonus. The rules differ by brand.

Coral
Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards

A standard Visa or Mastercard debit card is the safest choice for most offers, though Coral notes that certain debit cards don’t qualify either. Apple Pay and Google Pay pass through to the card behind them; check the terms if you plan to use a phone wallet. The payment method exclusions page tracks the detail.
What changes when you claim in the app rather than the browser
The offer is the same, but the app changes how you interact with it. Spins usually appear as a pop-up the next time you open the app, and Ladbrokes asks you to claim each day’s spins from the in-app inbox before 23:59. If you rarely open the app, that daily claim is easy to miss. Allowing notifications for that one app during the bonus period helps; the notifications guide explains how to keep them limited to account messages.
Some apps are separate from the brand’s sportsbook. Coral Casino: Slots & Games and Ladbrokes Casino Games & Slots are standalone casino apps, while 10bet and Casumo on iPhone use one combined sports and casino app. In a combined app, make sure you pick the casino welcome offer at sign-up, not the sports one.

Mistakes that cost people their welcome bonus
Depositing with PayPal or Skrill before reading the exclusions.
Staking the qualifying £10 on blackjack or roulette when the offer asks for slots.
Skipping an opt-in box or choosing the sports offer in a combined app.
Letting the 48-hour acceptance window or a daily 23:59 deadline pass.
Betting above £5 a spin while a Casumo bonus is active, which breaches the max bet rule.
Opening a second account in a household where one already exists; welcome offers are one per person, and terms often restrict households too.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best casino app welcome bonus in the UK?
No single offer is best for everyone, because it depends on how you play. For a short session with £10, fixed spins with no wagering, such as Coral’s 100 spins or PlayOJO’s 80, are the easiest to value. If you open the app daily, Ladbrokes spreads up to 500 spins over 10 days. If you prefer to pick your own games, a matched deposit from Casumo or 10bet gives bonus cash with 10x wagering. Compare them in pounds, not headline numbers, and read the bonus terms guide first. 18+, T&Cs apply.
Is a welcome bonus different in the app and on the website?
No, a licensed UK casino gives the same welcome bonus whether you register in its app or on its website. The app is a window onto the same account, so you can sign up on a laptop and claim spins on your phone, or the other way round. What differs is the experience: pop-ups, inbox messages and notifications are how most apps deliver spins. The app vs mobile site guide covers other practical differences.
Do I need a promo code for a casino app welcome bonus?
None of the five apps we work with needs a promo code for its welcome offer. You either opt in during registration or the offer is applied when you meet the trigger, such as a £10 slots bet at Coral. Sites claiming to sell or share secret codes for these offers are best avoided. If an app does ask for a code, it will show the field on the sign-up or deposit screen. Our promo codes page explains how codes work elsewhere.
How much wagering can a UK welcome bonus have?
Since 19 January 2026, no more than 10 times the bonus. Before that date, terms of 35x or more were common. Under the cap, a £25 bonus needs at most £250 of qualifying play before it converts to cash. Spin offers from Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO go further and carry no wagering on winnings at all. Our page on 10x wagering casino apps shows the maths at different bonus sizes.
Can I get a welcome bonus without depositing?
Not with any of the apps we work with, because none of them offers a no-deposit bonus. Each one needs a first deposit, and Coral and Ladbrokes also need a £10 slots stake. No-deposit offers do appear elsewhere in the UK market, but they are usually small and come with tight withdrawal caps. If you want to try games first, licensed apps let you play some demo games after age verification. See no deposit casino apps for the full picture.
Why didn’t my welcome bonus arrive?
The usual reason is that the deposit was made with an excluded method, such as PayPal, Skrill, Neteller or a prepaid card. Other causes include staking the qualifying £10 on a table game instead of slots, missing an opt-in, or the spins sitting unclaimed in the app’s inbox. Check the promotions or account area first, then contact live chat with a screenshot of the offer. Our guide to free spins not showing walks through each check.
Can I withdraw my deposit while a welcome bonus is active?
Usually yes, but it may cancel the bonus. With matched deposits such as Casumo’s or 10bet’s, withdrawing before the 10x wagering is complete normally forfeits the bonus and any winnings from it. Spin offers with no wagering are simpler because winnings are already cash. UK rules also stop a casino offering reverse withdrawals, so once you request a payout you can’t cancel it to keep playing. Read bonus withdrawal rules before you request one.
Can I claim welcome bonuses at more than one casino app?
Yes, each licensed casino offers its own welcome bonus, so you can claim one per brand. Coral and Ladbrokes are run by the same company, but they are separate brands with separate offers. You can’t claim the same brand’s offer twice, even on a different phone or email address. Running several bonuses at once makes spending harder to track, so set a deposit limit in each app. The more than one casino app page covers this.
Do welcome bonus winnings count as taxable income?
No, gambling winnings are not taxed for UK players, whether they come from a welcome bonus, spins or your own stakes. You don’t need to declare them to HMRC. That doesn’t make a bonus a way to earn money: the house edge means losses are the likely result over time. Large or repeated payouts can lead to source-of-funds or affordability checks by the casino. See are casino app winnings taxed for more detail.
