Game weighting is the percentage of each bet that counts towards a bonus wagering requirement, depending on the game you play. If slots count 100% and roulette counts 10%, a £1 spin knocks £1 off your target but a £1 roulette bet knocks off only 10p. The weighting table sits in the bonus terms, and it can make the same bonus far harder to clear on one game than another.
Slots usually count 100%; table games, live casino and some high-RTP slots often count less or nothing.
Divide the wagering target by the weighting to see how much you really need to bet.
Lower weighting reflects games with a lower house edge or easy low-risk betting patterns.
Bets on excluded games don’t count and can breach the bonus terms.

What game weighting means for a bonus
A wagering requirement tells you how much you need to bet. Game weighting tells you how much each bet is worth towards that total. A casino sets a percentage for each category of game, and only that share of your stake is counted. At 100%, every pound counts in full. At 20%, a £5 bet counts as £1. At 0%, the bet doesn’t count at all.
Weighting only affects the progress meter. It doesn’t change the bet itself: a £1 roulette bet still risks £1 and pays at the usual odds.
Typical game weighting percentages
Every casino and every offer sets its own table, so the figures below are typical ranges seen across UK casinos rather than any one partner’s terms.

Why
Most video slots
100%
Higher house edge, outcomes can’t be hedged
Some high-RTP or excluded slots
0% (excluded)
Return close to 100% makes clearing cheap
Scratchcards and instant wins
Often 100%, sometimes less
Depends on house edge
Roulette
Often 10–20% or 0%
Even-money bets and covering bets are low risk
Blackjack and video poker
Often 5–10% or 0%
Low house edge with good play
Live casino
Often 0–10%
Low edge and table limits
Slingo and bingo

Set per offer
Some offers simply say which games count and treat everything else as 0%. 10bet’s welcome bonus, for instance, must be wagered on slots. Casumo’s terms state that game, play and payment restrictions apply, so the full list is the place to check.

The theoretical cost is the total bet multiplied by the game’s house edge. Because low weighting multiplies the amount you must bet, a game with a smaller edge can end up costing more to clear a bonus. Real results vary a great deal from these averages.
Why casinos use game weighting
Bonuses are priced on the assumption that wagering costs the player something on average. On roulette apps, you could bet the same amount on red and black at once and lose very little per spin while still building up wagering. On blackjack apps, basic strategy brings the house edge down to well under 1% on many tables. Weighting stops those patterns from clearing a bonus at almost no cost. The same logic explains why some high-RTP slots are excluded.
Since January 2026, UK wagering has been capped at 10x and promotions can’t mix products, such as sports betting to unlock casino spins. Weighting still applies within the casino product, so it remains one of the most important lines in the terms.
Checking game weighting in a casino app
Open the promotions or bonus area and tap the offer.
Tap “full terms” or “terms and conditions”, usually a link at the bottom of the offer card.
Find the contribution or weighting table and any list of excluded games.
Watch your wagering meter after a few bets to confirm progress is counting.
On a phone, terms often open in an in-app browser that scrolls a long way. Using your phone’s find-in-page option, where the app allows it, and searching “contribut” or “excluded” saves time. If anything is unclear, ask live chat before you play and keep the reply.

Frequently asked questions
What is game weighting in a casino bonus?
Game weighting is the share of each bet that counts towards a bonus wagering requirement, and it changes by game type. If a game is weighted 100%, a £1 bet counts as £1; at 10%, the same bet counts as 10p; at 0%, it doesn’t count. Slots usually count in full, while table and live games often count less. You’ll find the percentages in the offer’s full terms. Our casino app bonus terms page explains the other rules nearby.
Why do slots count 100% towards wagering?
Most slots have a house edge of a few per cent and outcomes you can’t hedge, so casinos are comfortable counting every pound. Games where players can reduce risk sharply, such as betting both red and black on roulette, or where the edge is very low, like blackjack with basic strategy, would make bonuses almost free to clear. Some high-RTP slots are excluded for the same reason. Our high RTP slots apps page explains which games tend to return the most.
Does live casino count towards wagering?
Often not, or only at a low rate such as 10%. Live dealer games such as blackjack, roulette and baccarat tend to have low house edges, so many offers weight them at 0% or exclude them altogether. Some casinos run separate live casino promotions with their own rules. Check the weighting table before you open a live table with a bonus active. Our live casino app bonuses page covers offers aimed at live players.
How do I calculate wagering with game weighting?
Divide your wagering target by the weighting. With £100 to wager on a game weighted 25%, you need £400 of bets (£100 ÷ 0.25). On a 100% slot you need just £100. To estimate the average cost, multiply the total bet by the game’s house edge: £400 at 2.7% is about £10.80. Real outcomes vary widely. Our wagering requirement entry works through more examples with current offers.
What happens if I play an excluded game with a bonus?
At best the bets simply don’t count towards wagering. At worst, if the terms say excluded games can’t be played while a bonus is active, the casino may remove the bonus and any winnings made with it. The safest approach is to stick to the listed eligible games until wagering is complete. If you aren’t sure, ask live chat first. Our blackjack app bonuses page explains why table games are often restricted.
Is game weighting the same in the app and on the website?
Yes. The bonus belongs to your account, not the device, so the same weighting applies whether you play in the app or on the mobile site. What can differ is how easy the terms are to find: apps sometimes show a short summary on the offer card and put the weighting table behind a further link. Our do casino apps have different bonuses page explains why offers match across app and website.
