Instant win games apps

Instant win games apps are UK casino apps with a section of quick-result games, such as online scratchcards, Plinko, crash games, Hi-Lo and pick-a-box, where each round settles in seconds rather than over a series of spins or hands. They're built for portrait play and short sessions, which is exactly why they need careful budgeting.

Key takeaways

  • Instant win is a lobby label covering scratchcards, Plinko, crash, mines-style, Hi-Lo and pick-a-box games.
  • Published RTPs vary widely between games and, in Plinko-style games, between risk settings: check the help screen.
  • UK rules apply: no autoplay, no turbo and a minimum time per round for non-slot casino games since 17 January 2025.
  • Fast rounds make spending easy to lose track of, so set a deposit limit and a reality check before you start.

What instant win games apps include

Instant win isn't a single game; it's a category heading UK casino apps use for anything that settles in a single quick action. Some apps call the section Instant Win, others Arcade, Quick Games or Originals. The games inside tend to share three traits: one tap or a short sequence of taps per round, a result in seconds, and a simple portrait layout that works one-handed.

Game typeHow a round worksWhat you control
Online scratchcardReveal panels to see if a prize pattern appearsStake only; the result is set when you buy
PlinkoA ball drops through pegs into a multiplier slotStake, and on some games risk level and rows
CrashA multiplier rises until it crashes; cash out before it doesStake and when to cash out
Hi-LoGuess whether the next card is higher or lowerStake and whether to continue or collect
Pick-a-box or minesChoose tiles or boxes, avoiding losing onesStake, number of picks, when to collect
Dice and coin gamesPredict a roll or a flipStake and target

Each type has its own deeper page: scratchcard apps, Plinko apps, crash game apps, Hi-Lo apps and keno apps, which some lobbies file under instant games too.

How instant win results are decided

Every instant win game on a UK-licensed app uses a random number generator tested by an approved lab. What differs is how much your choices change the outcome distribution, and none of them change the house edge on average.

  • Scratchcards: the outcome is fixed the moment you pay. Scratching panels one by one or tapping Reveal All gives the same result; the animation is just presentation.
  • Plinko: each peg bounce is random. Choosing a higher risk level usually widens the gap between the edge multipliers and the centre ones, which changes volatility but not necessarily the RTP. Check the rules for each setting.
  • Crash: the crash point is random for each round. Cashing out early wins more often but smaller; waiting longer wins less often but larger. The long-run return is built into the multiplier maths either way.
  • Hi-Lo and pick games: each correct guess or safe pick grows the prize; carrying on risks everything won in that round.

Waiting for a crash game to 'run hot' or picking tiles in a pattern makes no difference. Every round is independent of the last.

RTP and risk in instant win games apps

Published RTP figures for instant win games range widely, from below 90% on some scratchcards to the high 90s on certain crash and dice games. The game's help screen gives the figure, sometimes per risk setting. Because rounds are so fast, the gap between RTPs shows up in your balance more quickly than on most slots.

RTPAverage kept per £100 stakedRounds at £1 to stake £100
90%£10100
95%£5100
97%£3100

These are long-run averages, not predictions. At £1 a round and roughly one round every several seconds, £100 of stakes can pass through a game in well under half an hour, and a session can land far from the average in either direction. Losses are the likely result over time.

Playing instant win games on a phone

Instant win games are among the lightest games in any casino app. They load quickly, use little data after loading and run comfortably on older phones, which is part of their appeal on a commute. Our page on casino apps for older phones explains why simpler games tend to run better on ageing hardware.

  1. Open the casino lobby and look for a tab called Instant Win, Arcade, Scratch or Quick Games, or search for the game type.
  2. Tap the game, then open the 'i' or menu icon and read the rules, RTP and maximum prize.
  3. Set your stake with the plus and minus buttons or the stake panel at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Choose any options the game offers, such as Plinko risk level or a crash target multiplier.
  5. Tap Play, Buy or Drop to start a single round; each round needs a new tap.
  6. Check your balance and session net position, shown on screen, before starting another round.

Some crash games let you set a target multiplier at which your stake cashes out automatically within a round. That's different from autoplay: you still start every round yourself. Haptic feedback and sound effects can be switched off in most games' settings menus, and our guide to casino app sound and vibration shows the device-level options.

UK rules for instant win games

Since 17 January 2025, the Gambling Commission's game design rules have applied beyond slots to other online casino games, including the instant formats found in app lobbies. Autoplay and turbo features are banned, each game cycle must last a minimum length (five seconds for non-slot games), wins smaller than the stake can't be presented as wins, and your balance and net position must stay visible.

RuleWhat you'll notice
No autoplayEvery round needs a tap
No turbo or quick playNo skip button for the reveal or drop
Minimum round timeA short pause before the next round can start
No false celebrationA return below your stake isn't shown as a win
Balance always shownBalance and session position on screen
Age verification before demo playDemos only after you've registered and been verified

The per-spin stake limits of £5 and £2 apply to online slots; each instant win game sets its own stake range. More detail is on our UK casino app rules page.

Free-to-play instant games and prize wheels

Some casino apps run instant-style games you can play without staking, for prizes. The Ladbrokes Casino app's store listing mentions free-to-play games including Instant Spins and a daily prize wheel, along with LadBucks, a reward currency used on its arcade games. The Coral Casino app's listing mentions free-to-play games with real-money prizes. These are promotions with their own terms, so check eligibility, prize types and expiry in the app. Our Ladbrokes app games page and casino app loyalty rewards guide explain how such schemes usually work.

Instant win games compared with slots and Slingo

Instant win games sit between slots and lottery-style games. Slingo, which mixes bingo and slots, is a close relative, covered on our Slingo apps page.

Keeping instant win play in proportion

Short, repeatable rounds are easy to play absent-mindedly: in a queue, during adverts, before bed. That's the main risk with this category. Practical safeguards in the app make a real difference:

  • Set a daily or weekly deposit limit before you play; reducing a limit takes effect straight away.
  • Turn on a reality check so the app interrupts long sessions with time and spend.
  • Use session limits if your app offers them.
  • Avoid raising your stake or cashing out later in a crash game to make up for losses.

Where to find instant win games on a UK app

All five of our partners are UKGC-licensed casino apps, but we haven't verified which instant win titles each lists; check the lobby categories after installing. Their welcome offers are slot-based: Ladbrokes gives up to 500 spins over 10 days and Coral 100 spins after a £10 slots stake, both 10p with no wagering, while Casumo offers 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of at least £20, wagered 10x within 7 days with game restrictions. 18+, terms apply.

Welcome offers at our partners are designed around slots rather than instant win games. Ladbrokes and Coral pay 10p spins with no wagering after a £10 slots stake; Casumo's 50% match up to £100 has game restrictions to check. 18+, T&Cs apply.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open a new account with another; check the terms before signing up.

Frequently asked questions

What are instant win games on a casino app?

They're quick-result games where each round settles in seconds, such as online scratchcards, Plinko, crash games, Hi-Lo and pick-a-box games. Casino apps group them under headings like Instant Win, Arcade or Quick Games. They use a random number generator like other casino games, have published RTPs, and follow UK game design rules such as no autoplay. Our pages on scratchcard apps and crash game apps explain two of the most common types in detail.

Do instant win games have better odds than slots?

Not as a rule. Published RTPs for instant win games range from below 90% on some scratchcards to the high 90s on certain crash and dice games, while most slots sit somewhere in the 94% to 97% range. The only way to compare is to read the RTP in each game's help screen. Because rounds are fast, a lower RTP shows in your balance sooner. Our RTP entry and guide to finding a game's RTP explain how.

Is scratching each panel different from tapping Reveal All?

No. On an online scratchcard the result is decided by the random number generator the moment you buy the card. Scratching panels one at a time, scratching in a particular order or tapping Reveal All only changes the animation, not the outcome. Choosing the reveal-all option shortens each round but the game still observes the UK minimum round time. Our scratchcard apps page explains online scratchcards and how they differ from shop-bought ones.

Is there autoplay on instant win games in the UK?

No. Since 17 January 2025, the Gambling Commission's ban on autoplay and turbo features has applied to online casino games beyond slots, including instant win formats. Every round must be started with a tap, and a minimum time per round applies. Some crash games let you set an automatic cash-out multiplier within a single round, but they can't start the next round for you. Our autoplay entry and UK slot design rules guide give the background.

Does the Plinko risk setting change the RTP?

It often changes volatility more than RTP. A higher risk level usually puts bigger multipliers at the edges and smaller ones in the middle, so most drops return less and occasional drops return much more. Some games publish slightly different RTPs for each setting, so check the help screen rather than assuming. Neither setting makes a profit more likely over time. Our Plinko apps page covers the game in depth and our volatility entry explains the idea.

Are there stake limits on instant win games?

The statutory £5 and £2 per-spin limits introduced in 2025 apply to online slots, not to instant win games. Each instant game sets its own minimum and maximum stake, shown in its rules screen. Your account's deposit limits apply to everything you play, and operators may set additional limits after affordability checks. Our casino app maximum stake page explains which caps apply where, and UK stake limits on mobile slots covers the slot rule.

Can I play instant win games for free?

Some apps offer demo versions, but only after you've registered and passed age verification under UK rules. Separately, some apps run free-to-play prize games: the Ladbrokes Casino app listing mentions Instant Spins and a daily prize wheel, and Coral's mentions free-to-play games with real-money prizes. Those are promotions with their own terms. Our free slots apps page explains the differences between demo play, social apps and prize games.

Why do instant win games feel so easy to keep playing?

Because each round is short and the next one is a single tap away, it's easy to lose track of time and spending. That's the main reason the UK applied minimum round times and the autoplay ban to these games. Deposit limits, reality checks and time-outs help keep sessions in proportion. If play feels hard to stop, our guide to signs gambling apps are affecting you and the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 are good places to start.
