Live roulette apps stream a real wheel and croupier to your phone, and you bet by tapping chips onto a touch-screen layout before the ball is launched. In the UK you’ll find them in the live casino section of licensed casino apps, and the single-zero tables carry a 2.70% house edge on almost every bet.
Choose single-zero (European or French) wheels: the edge is 2.70%, against 5.26% on double-zero American wheels.
In portrait the betting grid is compressed; landscape or the racetrack view makes neighbour and section bets easier.
Hot and cold number panels describe the past only; every spin is independent.
Slot stake caps don’t apply to roulette, but tables set their own limits and the UK bans autoplay on casino games.

What live roulette apps give you on a phone
A live roulette table is a physical wheel in a studio or casino, filmed from several angles. A croupier spins the wheel and launches the ball, or on automated tables a machine does both. Sensors under the wheel read the winning pocket and send it to the game server, which settles every bet and shows the number on your screen within a second or two of the ball settling.
Everything you do happens on a touch layout beneath or beside the video: pick a chip, tap the numbers, watch the countdown, then follow the spin. The table you join in the app is the same table players on the website and on other casinos’ apps are using, which is why a popular wheel can have hundreds of players at once.
If you want the computer version too, our roulette apps page covers both, and the wider live casino apps guide explains how live lobbies are organised.

Each payout is slightly less than the true odds, and that gap is the house edge. Put £2 on red for 100 spins and you have staked £200; at 2.70% the long-run expected cost is about £5.40. The same session on a double-zero wheel would be expected to cost about £10.52. Results swing either side of these averages in the short term, but over time the edge applies.
How the betting layout works in portrait and landscape
Fitting 37 numbers plus outside bets onto a phone held upright is the main design challenge. Most live roulette games solve it with a compressed grid under the video, where each number is a narrow cell. Tapping between two numbers places a split; tapping a corner where four meet places a corner bet. A long press or a small magnifier often shows exactly where your chip will land.
Rotate the phone and many tables switch to a full-width layout that is easier to read, with the video shrunk to a window. The racetrack view, usually a button near the grid, shows numbers in wheel order and lets you back neighbours or the named sections (Voisins du Zéro, Tiers du Cylindre, Orphelins) with one tap.
Rebet repeats your last layout; Double doubles it. Both need a tap each round.
Undo removes your last chip; Clear removes everything before betting closes.
Favourite bets let you save a pattern and place it with a single tap later.
Statistics panels show recent results and so-called hot numbers.
Recent-results panels are history, not prediction. A number that has not landed for 100 spins is exactly as likely as any other on the next spin.
How to place a live roulette bet in an app
Open your casino app and go to Live Casino, then the roulette filter, or search ‘roulette’.
Compare table tiles: check the wheel type (single or double zero) and the minimum stake.
Tap a table and wait for the stream to load and the betting timer to appear.
Pick a chip value from the rack at the bottom of the screen.
Tap numbers or outside areas to place chips; use the racetrack button for section bets.
Watch the countdown; when it reaches zero, ‘No more bets’ appears and your chips lock.
After the spin the winning number flashes on the grid and your balance updates; your bet history sits under the menu icon.
Stream quality, data and battery for live roulette
Live roulette is video for most of the round, so it uses far more data than a slot. Many tables show a close-up camera as the ball slows and a slow-motion replay after it lands, which adds to the load. Most apps set video quality automatically; a settings cog in the game usually lets you lower it if your signal is weak.
Battery drain is noticeable during long sessions, and both iPhone Low Power Mode and Android battery savers can reduce performance, which sometimes shows as stuttering video. If the stream freezes during betting, the countdown may end before you finish; the bets that registered are the only ones that count, and your history will show them. Read how live casino streams work on mobile for the technical side, or casino apps on public Wi-Fi before playing away from home.
Live roulette on iPhone versus Android
The games are the same on both, because live tables typically run inside the app as the studio’s own game player. The differences are around the edges. On iPhone, check that rotation lock is off in Control Centre if the layout won’t turn. On Android, some manufacturers’ battery optimisation can pause the stream when you switch apps, so returning to the game may reload the table. Either way, use the casino app troubleshooting steps if a table won’t open.
Roulette systems and why none beats the wheel
Betting systems change how your stakes rise and fall; they don’t change the edge on any bet. The Martingale, doubling after each loss, is the best-known example. Start at £2 on red and after six losses in a row your next stake must be £128 to recover £2. Table maximums and your own budget stop the sequence long before the maths can ‘work’, and a long losing run is more common than it feels.
Treat roulette as paid entertainment with a known price, roughly 2.7p of every £1 staked over time on a single-zero wheel, and set your budget accordingly. The bankroll management on mobile guide shows how to size chips to a fixed amount.
UK rules that shape live roulette apps
The £5 and £2 per-spin limits apply to online slots, not roulette. Each table shows its own stake range.
Autoplay is banned on online casino games, so every bet needs your tap, and non-slot rounds must last at least 5 seconds.
You must be verified as 18 or over before you can play, including any free-to-play games.
Credit cards can’t fund gambling, even through a digital wallet.
You can’t reverse a withdrawal once requested.
Live roulette and welcome bonuses
Free spins only work on the named slots, so they never apply to roulette. Bonus money is different: operators often exclude roulette from wagering or count it at a low percentage, because covering both red and black would otherwise clear wagering cheaply. Read the game-restriction section of any bonus before opting in, and see roulette app bonuses for what to look for.

Frequently asked questions
Are live roulette apps fair?
Yes, at casinos licensed by the UK Gambling Commission the wheel is real, filmed continuously, and the result is read by sensors rather than typed in by a person. Wheels are checked for bias and replaced or serviced as part of the studio’s routine, and the payouts are fixed by the game rules, so the casino’s edge comes only from the zero. Always confirm a casino is licensed by matching the operator name in the app to the public register, as explained in how to check a casino licence. The safe casino apps guide lists other checks.
Which live roulette has the best odds?
French roulette with la partage has the lowest house edge on even-money bets, 1.35%, because half your stake is returned when zero lands. Other bets on that wheel, and all bets on European roulette, carry 2.70%. American roulette has an extra double-zero pocket and an edge of 5.26%, so it is the poorest value. Multiplier versions change the payouts, so check the RTP on their help screen. Our single-zero roulette glossary entry explains the difference, and French roulette apps shows where la partage tables appear.
Can I play live roulette on mobile data?
Yes, live roulette runs on 4G or 5G as long as the signal is steady, but it uses noticeably more data than slots because it streams video for the whole round. If your allowance is limited, Wi-Fi is the better choice for longer sessions. Most games let you lower video quality through a settings icon, which reduces data use and helps on weak signal. A dropped connection after betting closes doesn’t cancel your bet; it is settled normally. See Wi-Fi vs mobile data and our 5G casino apps page for more.
What is the minimum bet on live roulette in UK apps?
Minimum stakes vary by table and are shown on the table tile in the lobby. Popular single-zero tables often accept small stakes per chip, while high-limit and VIP tables ask for much more. Note that some tables set separate minimums for inside bets (numbers) and outside bets such as red or black. The UK per-spin caps of £5 and £2 apply to slots only, not roulette. If you’re playing on a budget, choose a table whose minimum lets you make plenty of bets, and read our stake limit explainer and the low deposit casino apps guide.
Why does the betting time feel so short on my phone?
The countdown is the same for everyone at the table, but on a phone it can feel shorter because the grid is small and the stream may lag a second or two behind the studio. To make the most of the window, choose your chip first, use saved favourite bets for patterns you repeat, and use the Rebet button when you want the same layout again. Landscape mode gives bigger targets. If your connection is slow, the timer you see may be slightly behind. Our casino app speed and performance guide has tips to reduce lag.
Do hot and cold numbers help in live roulette?
No. The statistics panel in live roulette shows how often numbers have landed recently, but each spin is independent and every number on a single-zero wheel has the same 1 in 37 chance every time. A number that has come up five times in the last hour is no more or less likely on the next spin. The panels are there because many players enjoy them, not because they predict anything. Our page on how casino app games work explains independence, and RTP covers what you can expect to get back over time.
Can I play live roulette on an iPad?
Yes. Most UK casino apps run on iPad as well as iPhone, and live roulette suits a tablet well because the full betting layout and the video fit side by side in landscape. The racetrack, statistics and chat panels have more room, making section and neighbour bets easier to place accurately. Check the App Store listing to confirm the app supports iPad, and keep iPadOS up to date. Our iPad casino apps page compares how the five partner apps look on bigger screens, and iPad Pro covers the largest model.
Is automated live roulette the same as computer roulette?
No. Automated or ‘auto’ roulette uses a real physical wheel with a machine that spins it and fires the ball, filmed live, so the outcome comes from the wheel rather than a random number generator. It runs faster than a croupier table because there is no dealer, but you still bet within a countdown and the UK rules on round length and autoplay still apply. Computer roulette, by contrast, is entirely software. Both carry the same 2.70% edge on a single-zero wheel. The table games apps page covers computer versions.
