The Lightning Roulette app game is Evolution’s live single-zero roulette with a twist: each round, one to five numbers are struck by ‘lightning’ and given multipliers from 50x to 500x for straight-up bets. You play it inside a UK casino app’s live lobby, and the price of those multipliers is a lower 29:1 payout on unboosted numbers.
Lightning Roulette is a European (single-zero) wheel from Evolution, launched in 2018.
One to five lucky numbers get a 50x–500x multiplier each round, but only straight-up bets benefit.
Unlucky straight-ups pay 29:1 rather than 35:1, so the published RTP is 97.10% on straight-ups and 97.30% elsewhere.
Outside bets such as red or black pay exactly as on ordinary roulette.

What the Lightning Roulette app game is
Lightning Roulette is a live game from Evolution, first launched in 2018. A croupier spins a real single-zero wheel in a stylised studio, and before the ball drops the game’s software picks between one and five ‘lucky’ numbers, shown with a lightning-strike animation and a multiplier. There is no separate Lightning Roulette app to download: the game sits inside the live roulette section of licensed casino apps.
Everything else is standard European roulette: 37 pockets, the usual inside and outside bets, a betting timer and a racetrack for section bets. That familiarity is why it is one of the most popular live tables in UK apps.
How lightning numbers and multipliers work
Once betting closes, lightning strikes one to five numbers on the layout, each with a multiplier of 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x or 500x. The numbers and values are chosen at random by the game server and appear on your screen as glowing pockets on the betting grid. The croupier then launches the ball.
If the ball lands on a lucky number and you had a straight-up bet on it, you’re paid at that multiplier instead of the normal odds.
If the ball lands on a number you backed straight up that wasn’t struck, you’re paid 29:1 rather than 35:1.
Splits, corners, streets, dozens, columns and even-money bets are unaffected by lightning and pay at the usual rates.
So the multipliers are a feature for players who like single-number bets. If you only play red or black, Lightning Roulette is effectively ordinary European roulette with extra animation. The multiplier glossary entry covers how boosts work across casino games.

Lightning Roulette RTP: 97.30% and 97.10% explained
The published theoretical RTP is 97.30% for most bets, the same as ordinary single-zero roulette, and 97.10% for straight-ups. The difference comes from the trade: the lower 29:1 payout on unstruck numbers more than pays for the occasional big multiplier.
To put it in pounds: £1 straight-up bets for 200 rounds is £200 staked. At 97.10% the long-run expected cost is about £5.80, compared with about £5.40 at 97.30%. The bigger change is in the shape of results: most of the straight-up return now comes from rare multiplied hits, so sessions are swingier, with more small losing runs and occasional large wins. That higher volatility is the real difference to plan for.
Straight-up bets: what changes and what doesn’t
Spreading chips over many single numbers doesn’t improve your odds; each straight-up carries the same 97.10% return, and every number is equally likely to be struck and to win. Covering 10 numbers at £1 costs £10 a round: if one of them wins without lightning you get £30 back (£29 plus your £1), a net gain of £20, but on most rounds none of them wins and the £10 is lost.
Lucky numbers are drawn after betting closes, so you can’t choose to bet on them. And because strikes are random each round, a number that was struck recently is no more likely to be struck again. Fix a budget before you start and keep chip sizes steady; our bankroll management on mobile guide shows how.
The Lightning Roulette layout on a phone
In portrait, the wheel and croupier fill the upper screen and a compact betting grid sits below, with chip rack, Undo, Double and Rebet along the bottom edge. When lightning strikes, the chosen numbers light up on the grid with their multiplier printed in the cell, and the video cuts to a close-up of the wheel as the ball slows.
Placing a precise straight-up on a narrow grid is the main challenge on a small screen. Turning the phone to landscape enlarges the layout, and the racetrack view lets you pick numbers in wheel order. Saved favourite bets are useful if you always back the same numbers. If the game refuses to rotate, check your phone’s rotation lock; on iPhone it sits in Control Centre.
How to play Lightning Roulette in a casino app
Open a UK-licensed casino app and log in (Face ID or fingerprint if enabled).
Tap Live Casino, then Roulette, or search ‘Lightning Roulette’ in the lobby.
Check the table’s stake range on the tile and tap to join.
Choose a chip and tap numbers for straight-ups, or use outside areas and the racetrack for other bets.
When the timer ends, watch the lightning reveal the lucky numbers and their multipliers.
The croupier spins; the winning pocket is highlighted and your balance updates.
Use Rebet to repeat, or leave between rounds using the back arrow.
Each round includes betting time, the lightning sequence, the spin and the result, so Lightning Roulette is slower than an automated wheel. That suits a phone: fewer rounds an hour means less staked per hour at the same chip size. It is a live video stream, though, so it uses far more data than computer roulette. On weak 4G, lower the stream quality in the game’s settings cog. Read how live casino streams work on mobile for the reasons behind delays.
Lightning Roulette or ordinary live roulette?
Advantages
Single-zero wheel, so the edge is far lower than double-zero tables
Outside bets pay exactly as normal roulette
Multipliers add excitement for straight-up players
Slower rounds keep the hourly stake down
Drawbacks
Unstruck straight-ups pay only 29:1
Slightly lower RTP on straight-ups (97.10%)
Results are swingier if you mainly bet single numbers
Busy animation can lag on older phones
If you prefer even-money bets, French roulette apps with la partage offer a lower edge on those bets.
UK rules that apply to Lightning Roulette
The £5 and £2 per-spin limits apply to online slots only, so Lightning Roulette uses the table’s own minimum and maximum. Autoplay is banned on online casino games and non-slot rounds must last at least 5 seconds, so every bet needs your tap. You must be over 18 and verified before you play, credit cards can’t fund gambling, and a withdrawal can’t be reversed once requested. See UK casino app rules.
Bonuses, limits and staying in control
Free spins can’t be used on Lightning Roulette, and bonus money often excludes roulette or counts it at a reduced rate towards wagering; roulette app bonuses explains what to check. Whatever you play, set a deposit limit in the app’s safer gambling menu and switch on reality checks. If you’re worried about your gambling, call the National Gambling Helpline free on 0808 8020 133.

Frequently asked questions
Is Lightning Roulette worse value than normal roulette?
Only slightly, and only for straight-up bets. The published RTP for straight-ups is 97.10%, compared with 97.30% on normal single-zero roulette, because unstruck numbers pay 29:1 instead of 35:1. All other bets keep the standard 97.30%. In pounds, £100 of straight-up bets has an expected long-run cost of about £2.90 against about £2.70 on normal roulette. The bigger difference is volatility: wins come less often but can be much larger. For a wider comparison see live roulette apps, and the house edge entry explains the maths.
How many lucky numbers are there in Lightning Roulette?
Between one and five numbers are struck each round, chosen at random after betting closes. Each gets a multiplier of 50x, 100x, 200x, 300x, 400x or 500x, which applies only to straight-up bets on that number. The number of strikes and the values change every round, and previous strikes have no influence on the next one. Zero can be struck too, like any other number. If you’d like to learn more about how random features work in live games, see how casino app games work and the multiplier glossary entry.
Can I download a Lightning Roulette app?
Not as a standalone real-money app. Lightning Roulette is supplied by Evolution only to licensed casinos, so in the UK you play it inside a casino’s own app or mobile site. Apps in the stores using the name from unknown developers are not the real game and shouldn’t be trusted with money or personal details. Install a casino app from the App Store or Google Play, check its developer matches the licence holder, then search the live lobby. See how to download casino apps and how to spot fake casino apps.
Do outside bets get multipliers in Lightning Roulette?
No. Lightning multipliers apply only to straight-up bets on the struck numbers. Red or black, odd or even, high or low, dozens and columns pay exactly the same as in standard European roulette, as do splits, streets and corners. That means an even-money player gets the familiar 97.30% RTP and normal results. It also means that for outside-bet players, the lightning sequence is just a show. If even-money bets are your main interest, a French table with la partage offers a lower edge; read la partage and French roulette apps.
Is Lightning Roulette fair?
Yes, when played at a UK-licensed casino. The wheel and ball are physical and filmed throughout, the result is read by sensors, and the lucky numbers are generated by certified random number software after betting closes, so nobody can target them at your bets. The theoretical returns are published in the help screen. The house edge still applies, so losses are the likely outcome over time. Check the casino’s licence on the Gambling Commission register before playing; our guides to how to check a casino licence and RNG explain the checks.
What is the maximum win on Lightning Roulette?
The biggest standard multiplier is 500x on a straight-up bet, so a £1 straight-up on a number struck at 500x returns £500 plus your stake. The table also has a maximum payout per round set by the studio and casino, which you’ll find on the help screen, and stake limits differ between tables. Any version with different rules or higher multipliers will state them in its own help screen, so always check there rather than assuming. Large wins may trigger extra checks before withdrawal, as explained in our guide to large wins on casino apps and max win.
Why do my Lightning Roulette numbers look tiny on my phone?
A full roulette layout has 37 numbers plus outside bets, so in portrait each cell is small. Turn the phone to landscape for a larger layout, use the racetrack view to pick numbers by their wheel position, or save regular combinations as favourite bets. Some live games also show a magnified preview when you press and hold a cell, so try that before placing chips. If text remains hard to read, larger text and display settings on your phone can help. Our guides to casino app accessibility and small screen phones have more ideas.
How much data does Lightning Roulette use?
It uses much more than a slot because it streams live video throughout, plus animated overlays for the lightning sequence. The exact amount depends on the video quality, which most apps adjust automatically to your connection, and on how long you play. Check your phone’s mobile data settings after a session to see the casino app’s usage. If your allowance is small, play on Wi-Fi or choose a lower quality in the game’s settings. Our casino app data usage and Wi-Fi vs mobile data guides explain more.
