Sic bo apps

Sic bo apps let you bet on the result of three dice shaken in a closed container, from simple Small or Big bets to exact triples, on an RNG table or a live stream. Small and Big carry a house edge of about 2.8%, but most of the other boxes on the grid cost between roughly 8% and 19%.

Key takeaways

  • Three dice give 216 equally likely results; totals of 10 and 11 are the most common, at 27 ways each.
  • Small (4–10) and Big (11–17) pay even money and lose on any triple, giving an edge of about 2.8%.
  • Exact totals, doubles and triples pay more but cost more: a specific triple at 180 to 1 has an edge of about 16.2%.
  • Paytables vary between games, so the help screen in your app is the figure to trust.

Sic bo apps: what the game is

Sic bo is a dice game with roots in China, where the name is often translated as ‘precious dice’. Three dice are shaken inside a closed shaker or glass dome, and you bet on what they’ll show: the total, whether it’s small or big, particular numbers, pairs or triples. There are no decisions after the dice are revealed. Each round is a single result.

In a UK casino app you’ll meet sic bo either as a computer-dealt table, using a tested random number generator, or as a live casino game streamed from a studio with a real shaker. It’s a quieter cousin of craps: both use dice, but sic bo has no come-out roll or point, so every round settles at once.

Three-dice odds: how often each total appears

Three dice can land in 6 × 6 × 6 = 216 equally likely ways. Totals in the middle can be made in many more ways than totals at the ends, just as with two dice in craps.

3 or 181 each0.46%
4 or 173 each1.4%
5 or 166 each2.8%

7 or 1415 each6.9%
8 or 1321 each9.7%
9 or 1225 each11.6%
10 or 1127 each12.5%

Two other numbers come up all the time. There are 6 triples (1-1-1 to 6-6-6) in the 216 results, so a triple of some kind lands about once in 36 rounds. And any one number, say a 4, appears on at least one die in 91 of the 216 results, about 42% of the time.

Sic bo bets and their house edge

Every box on the sic bo grid is a separate bet with its own payout. These figures use a common paytable; versions in UK apps can pay a little more or less, which changes the house edge.

Small and Big look like a coin flip, but they both lose when a triple lands. That small gap, 6 results in 216, is the whole house edge on those bets. The higher-paying boxes look generous until you compare the payout with the true odds: a specific triple is a 1 in 216 chance, but pays 180 to 1.

House edge describes the long run. Short sessions swing widely, and losses are likely over time on every sic bo bet.

Worked example: £1 on Big across 216 rounds

Imagine £1 on Big in each of 216 rounds that happen to land exactly in line with the odds. Totals of 11 or more cover 108 of the 216 results, but Big loses on three of them: 6-6-6 (a total of 18) and the triples 4-4-4 and 5-5-5. That leaves 105 winning rounds. You win £1 on 105 rounds and lose £1 on 111. Net result: −£6 from £216 staked, which is the 2.8% edge. Real sessions never land this neatly, but over thousands of rounds results drift towards it.

The sic bo grid on a phone screen

A full sic bo table has around 50 betting boxes, so phone versions reorganise it. In portrait, you’ll usually see the dice result at the top, then a scrollable betting grid: Small and Big at the top, totals in a row of tiles, then doubles, triples and number combinations. Some games put the less common bets on a second tab.

  • Tap a chip, then a box. Tap again to add another chip; long press often shows the payout.
  • Undo, Clear and Rebet buttons sit near the chip rack.
  • Statistics panels show recent results and how often totals have appeared. They’re history only and don’t predict the next roll.
  • Landscape shows more of the grid at once and is often easier for combination bets.

If the boxes feel small, a large-screen phone or tablet helps, or zoom in using your phone’s accessibility settings.

How to play sic bo in a casino app

  1. Open the app, tap Search and type ‘sic bo’. Check both table games and live casino.
  2. Open the help screen and note the payouts, table limits and RTP for each bet.
  3. Pick a chip value from the rack at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Tap the boxes you want to bet on. Your total stake shows near the chip rack.
  5. Tap Shake or Roll on an RNG table, or wait for the betting timer to close on a live table.
  6. The three dice are revealed and winning boxes light up. Wins go straight to your balance.
  7. Check your net position before placing the next bet; use Rebet only if you meant to repeat it.

Live sic bo and multiplier versions

Live sic bo streams a studio table where a mechanical shaker rolls the dice under a camera. Some versions add random multipliers to certain boxes before each round, such as Super Sic Bo from Evolution. To pay for those multipliers, the base payouts on affected bets are usually reduced, so the RTP isn’t automatically better. Check the help screen of the exact table you’re playing.

Live tables use much more data and battery than RNG tables. For longer sessions, Wi-Fi is the better option; our Wi-Fi vs mobile data guide explains why. A bet must be confirmed before the betting timer reaches zero, so a slow connection can mean a bet isn’t placed.

Sensible habits for sic bo on your phone

  • If you want the lowest cost per bet, Small and Big are the boxes to know.
  • Count every chip on the grid; spreading bets doesn’t reduce the edge, it adds bets.
  • Ignore ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ statistics; the dice have no memory.
  • Set a deposit limit and take regular breaks.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best bet in sic bo?

Small and Big are the best bets in sic bo for most paytables, with a house edge of about 2.8%. They pay even money on totals of 4 to 10 or 11 to 17, but lose whenever a triple lands. Every other common bet, from single numbers to specific triples, carries a much higher edge, roughly 8% to 19% depending on the bet and paytable. Check the help screen for the payouts in your app. Our house edge entry explains how the figures are worked out.

Are sic bo apps legal in the UK?

Yes, sic bo apps are legal in the UK when the operator holds a Gambling Commission licence. Apple and Google only allow real-money gambling apps from licensed operators for UK users, and you must be 18 or over and pass identity checks. Sic bo is less common than roulette or blackjack, so search the lobby before you sign up. To confirm a licence, look up the operator’s name on the public register; our guide to checking a casino licence shows the steps.

What does Small and Big mean in sic bo?

Small is a bet that the three dice total 4 to 10, and Big is a bet that they total 11 to 17. Both pay even money, so a £1 winning bet returns £2. Both lose if the dice show a triple, such as 2-2-2 or 5-5-5, even though those totals fall inside the range. That triple rule is what gives the casino its edge of about 2.8% on these bets. Our how casino app games work page explains random results in apps.

Is live sic bo available on mobile?

Yes, many UK casino apps that carry live casino games stream sic bo tables to phones and tablets. The stream sits at the top in portrait, with a scrollable betting grid below, and you can rotate to landscape for a bigger view. Some live versions add random multipliers to certain bets, usually with lower base payouts to balance them. Live tables use much more data than RNG games. Our guide on how to play live casino on mobile covers the basics.

Can I predict sic bo results from the statistics panel?

No, the statistics panel only shows past results and can’t predict the next roll. RNG sic bo uses a tested random number generator, and live sic bo uses physical dice, and in both cases each round is independent of the last. A total that hasn’t appeared for a while is no more likely to come up next. The panel is there for interest, not strategy. See are casino apps rigged and our RNG entry for how fairness is tested.

How is sic bo different from craps?

Sic bo uses three dice and settles every bet on a single roll, while craps uses two dice and many bets last through a round with a point. Sic bo’s lowest-edge bets, Small and Big, sit at about 2.8%, while craps offers pass line at about 1.41% and a free odds bet with no edge. Sic bo is simpler to learn on a phone, but craps has more low-edge choices. Our craps apps page explains the come-out roll and point.

Can you play sic bo for free on a UK app?

Some casinos offer demo sic bo, but you must verify your age first. Since May 2019, UK operators have had to confirm players are 18 or over before allowing free-to-play games. Demo tables use the same payouts as the real ones, which makes them a good way to learn the betting grid on a small screen. Live sic bo has no demo mode, and demo winnings can’t be withdrawn. Our demo mode entry explains how demo play works.

Does sic bo count towards casino bonus wagering?

Often not, or only at a reduced rate, because many bonus terms exclude table and live games or give them a low weighting. Small and Big bets in particular are commonly excluded, as their low edge suits bonus clearing. Under UK rules from 19 January 2026, wagering can’t exceed 10x, but stakes on excluded games clear none of it. The welcome offers we list are built around slots. Read the eligible games list before using bonus funds; our wagering requirements guide explains how.
