Craps apps

Craps apps let you bet on the roll of two dice, either on an RNG table or a live stream, with the busy craps layout squeezed onto a phone screen. The simplest bet, the pass line, has a house edge of about 1.4%, while many of the tempting one-roll bets in the middle of the table cost far more.

Key takeaways

  • There are 36 ways two dice can land; 7 is the most common total, coming up 6 times in 36.
  • Pass line (about 1.41%) and don’t pass (about 1.36%) are among the lowest-edge bets in any casino app; free odds behind them carry no house edge.
  • Proposition bets such as Any Seven carry edges of 9% to almost 17%.
  • Mobile craps apps split the table into tabs or zoomed areas; live craps streams use much more data than RNG tables.

Craps apps: how the game works

Craps is a dice game. A ‘shooter’ (or the game engine, on an RNG table) rolls two dice, and players bet on the result. The first roll of a round is the come-out roll. On the come-out, 7 or 11 wins for pass line bets, and 2, 3 or 12 (‘craps’) loses. Any other total, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, becomes the point.

Once a point is set, the dice keep rolling until either the point comes up again (pass line wins) or a 7 appears (pass line loses, and a new round begins). Dozens of other bets sit around this core, some lasting for a single roll and some for the whole round.

In a UK app you’ll find craps either as a computer-dealt table game or as a streamed live casino game with real dice. It’s much less common than roulette or blackjack, so it’s worth searching the lobby before you sign up anywhere for craps alone.

Craps odds: how often each total rolls

Every craps bet comes back to one fact: two dice can land in 36 equally likely combinations. Totals in the middle can be made more ways than totals at the ends.

212.8%1 in 36
325.6%1 in 18

9411.1%1 in 9
1038.3%1 in 12
1125.6%1 in 18
1212.8%1 in 36

This table explains the whole game. A point of 6 or 8 is likely to be rolled again before a 7 (5 ways against 6), while a point of 4 or 10 is much less likely (3 ways against 6). Pass line bets win more often on the come-out because 7 and 11 together have 8 ways, against only 4 ways for 2, 3 and 12.

House edge on craps bets, from lowest to highest

Craps has some of the lowest-edge bets in a casino and some of the highest, sitting a few centimetres apart on the same layout. These are the commonly quoted figures for standard rules; the game’s help screen confirms the paytable in your app.

The free odds bet is unusual: it’s paid at the exact true odds, so it has no house edge. You can only place it after a point is set and only alongside a pass or come bet, which does carry an edge. The maximum odds you can take varies by game.

House edge is a long-run average. In any session, results swing a lot, and losses are likely over time on every bet except the odds bet itself.

A round of craps, roll by roll

Here’s how a typical round plays out with a £5 pass line bet.

  1. Come-out roll: the dice show 3 and 5, making 8. The point is now 8. Your pass line bet stays in play.
  2. You add £5 of free odds behind your pass line bet. True odds on a point of 8 are 6 to 5.
  3. Next roll: 2 and 3, making 5. Nothing happens to your bets.
  4. Next roll: 6 and 6, making 12. Still nothing; only 8 or 7 settle the pass line now.
  5. Next roll: 4 and 4, making 8. The point is hit. Your pass line pays even money (£5 profit) and your odds bet pays 6 to 5 (£6 profit).
  6. A new come-out roll begins the next round.

If a 7 had landed before the 8, both the £5 pass line and the £5 odds would have been lost.

The craps table on a phone screen

A full craps layout has more betting areas than any other table game, which is a challenge on a phone. Mobile versions tackle it in a few ways:

  • Tabs or swipeable panels split the table into main bets (pass, don’t pass, come, field) and proposition bets (hardways, one-roll bets).
  • Pinch to zoom on some RNG tables enlarges the area you’re betting on.
  • Chip rack along the bottom; tap a chip, then tap the area. A long press usually shows the bet’s payout and limits.
  • Odds button appears next to your pass or come bet once a point is set.
  • Undo and Clear buttons sit beside the chip rack before the roll.

Landscape is often easier for craps, especially on live tables where the dice stream sits above a compressed betting grid. On an iPad or a large-screen phone, the full layout may fit without tabs.

How to place your first craps bet in an app

  1. Open the app, tap Search and type ‘craps’. Check both the table games and live casino results.
  2. Open the game’s help screen and read the payouts and the minimum and maximum bets.
  3. Wait for a come-out roll (the table shows ‘Point: Off’ or similar).
  4. Choose a chip and tap the Pass Line area. Confirm the bet if the game asks.
  5. Roll (RNG table) or wait for the live shooter. The result settles automatically.
  6. If a point is set, decide whether to add odds behind your pass line bet.
  7. Keep rolling until the point or a 7 lands; your net position updates after each roll.

Live craps on mobile: streams, timers and data

Live craps streams a real table with real dice, often thrown by a mechanical shooter or a dealer, and adds a betting window timer before each roll. Evolution is among the studios that have built live craps formats. The live game sets its own pace; on a phone the stream is at the top in portrait, with a simplified betting grid underneath.

  • Live streams use far more data than RNG tables. Wi-Fi is the better choice for longer sessions.
  • If your connection drops during the betting window, any bet not confirmed won’t be placed.
  • Settled results stand even if your stream freezes; check your game history afterwards.
  • Our guide to how live casino streams work on mobile explains adaptive quality and delay.

UK rules that apply to craps apps

RNG craps in a UK app is an online casino game, so since 17 January 2025 each roll must take at least five seconds, there’s no autoplay or auto-roll, and no turbo feature. Your net position and session time stay on screen. Live tables follow their own physical pace and the operator’s live game rules.

No autoplay (RNG)Every roll starts with your tap
5 seconds per round (RNG)Rolls can’t be rushed

The £5 and £2 per-spin limits are for slots, not craps; each craps table sets its own limits. See our maximum stake page for how limits differ by game.

Sensible craps habits for app players

  • Learn the pass line and odds bet first; they’re simple and carry the lowest edges.
  • Treat hardways and one-roll bets as costly extras.
  • Count every chip on the layout as part of your stake; craps makes it easy to have several bets running.
  • Use a time-out if a session runs longer than planned.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best bet in craps?

The free odds bet is the best bet in craps, because it pays at true odds and has no house edge. You can only place it after a point is set, behind a pass, don’t pass, come or don’t come bet. Of the bets you can make on their own, don’t pass (about 1.36%) and pass line (about 1.41%) have the lowest commonly quoted edges. Proposition bets in the middle of the layout cost much more. Our house edge entry explains how these figures are calculated.

Are craps apps legal in the UK?

Yes, craps apps are legal in the UK when they come from an operator licensed by the Gambling Commission. Apple and Google only accept real-money gambling apps from licensed operators for UK users, and you must be 18 or over and pass identity checks. Craps is offered by fewer UK casinos than roulette or blackjack, so check the lobby. Before installing any app, compare the developer name with the licence holder on the register. Our how to check a casino app developer guide shows how.

Why is 7 so important in craps?

Seven is the most common total with two dice, coming up 6 times in every 36 rolls on average. It wins pass line bets on the come-out roll, but once a point is set, a 7 ends the round and loses pass line bets. That’s why the point numbers closest to 7, the 6 and 8, are the most likely to be hit again. Every payout in craps is built around how often a total appears compared with 7. Our how casino app games work page explains random dice results in apps.

Is live craps available on mobile?

Yes, some UK casino apps stream live craps tables to phones and tablets, with real dice and a timed betting window. The video appears at the top in portrait, with a simplified betting grid below, and landscape gives a larger view. Live craps uses much more data than RNG craps, so Wi-Fi is better for long sessions. Availability is limited compared with other live games, so search the live lobby. Our live casino apps page and how to play live casino on mobile guide cover the basics.

Is online craps rigged?

No, craps in a licensed UK casino app is either run by a tested random number generator or played with real dice on a live stream. Both are covered by Gambling Commission rules and independent testing. RNG dice have no memory, so a run of sevens doesn’t make another more or less likely. Live tables use physical dice under camera view. If a result looks wrong, your game history shows every roll. See are casino apps rigged and how casino apps are tested.

Can you play craps for free on a UK app?

Some casinos offer demo craps, but you must verify your age first. Since May 2019, UK operators have had to confirm players are 18 or over before letting them use free-to-play games. Demo craps is a useful way to learn where each bet sits on a phone layout without spending money. It uses the same payouts as the real table, and demo wins can’t be withdrawn. Live craps has no demo mode. Our free casino apps page explains demo play in more detail.

Why does craps look so complicated on a phone?

Craps has more betting areas than any other table game, so mobile versions have to split or shrink the layout. Most apps use tabs or swipeable panels for main bets and proposition bets, and some let you pinch to zoom. The core game only needs the pass line, so you can ignore most of the layout while learning. Long-pressing a bet area usually shows its payout and limits. Rotating to landscape helps too. Our portrait vs landscape guide explains orientation choices on mobile.

Do craps bets count towards casino bonus wagering?

Often not, or only at a reduced rate. Many bonus terms exclude table games or give them a low game weighting, partly because bets such as pass and don’t pass have very low edges. Under UK rules from 19 January 2026 wagering can’t exceed 10x, but a 0% weighting means craps stakes clear none of it. The welcome offers we list are built around slots. Always check the eligible games list first. Our game weighting entry explains how contribution rates work.
