Bingo apps UK players use let you buy tickets for scheduled games, watch the numbers drop and have them marked off automatically, all from a phone. Your chance of winning depends on how many tickets you hold compared with everyone else in the room, and the prize pot and ticket price are shown before you buy.
Your chance in a single-winner game is simply your tickets divided by all tickets in play: 5 of 500 is 1%.
90-ball is the classic UK format; 75-ball, 80-ball and speed rooms play faster with different patterns.
Auto-daub marks numbers for you on tickets you have already bought; it doesn’t buy tickets or play on your behalf.
Slots played inside a bingo app still follow the £5/£2 stake limits and 2.5-second spin rule.

How bingo apps UK players use actually work
Online bingo runs in rooms. Each room has a timetable of games, a ticket price, a prize structure and a countdown to the next game. You buy tickets before the countdown ends, the caller (a random number generator, sometimes with a recorded voice) draws numbers, and the app marks them on your tickets. The first ticket to complete a winning pattern takes the prize; if two tickets finish on the same number, the prize is usually split.
Bingo is licensed separately from casino games in Great Britain. A brand that runs bingo rooms needs a bingo operating licence as well as, or instead of, a casino one. PlayOJO, for example, appears on the Gambling Commission register with a casino licence since 2014 and bingo since February 2020. Plenty of bingo apps also carry slots and Slingo, so the same app can contain products with quite different rules and costs.
Because games run on a schedule, bingo feels more social and paced than slots. A 90-ball game commonly lasts a few minutes, while speed rooms finish in well under a minute.

As standard 90-ball
In 90-ball each ticket is part of a ‘strip’ of six that between them hold every number from 1 to 90, so buying a full strip guarantees a number lands on one of your tickets with every call. It doesn’t change your chance of winning compared with buying six separate tickets; you are still holding six tickets out of everyone’s total.
How to buy bingo tickets in a phone app
Button names differ between brands, but the flow in most apps looks like this.
Open the app and tap Bingo in the bottom menu or the top tabs.
Browse the room list. Each card shows the ticket price, prize, players in the room and a countdown.
Tap a room to see its full details, including the prize split and any rules for linked jackpots.
Choose how many tickets (or strips) to buy using the plus and minus buttons, and check the total cost.
Tap Buy and confirm. Some apps let you pre-buy for later games in the schedule from the same screen.
Tap Enter Room when the game is close. Your tickets appear, sorted with the closest-to-winning first.
When the game ends, wins are credited to your balance and shown in your transaction history.
The bingo screen on iPhone and Android
Bingo apps are designed for portrait. The latest called number sits in a ball at the top, often with the last few calls beside it. Your tickets fill the middle of the screen, and the bottom bar holds chat, room information and a menu. With many tickets, the app shows only your best few and lets you swipe or tap ‘View all’ to see the rest.
Auto-daub marks called numbers on your tickets automatically. It is switched on by default in most rooms.
To go counters show how many numbers each ticket still needs, for example ‘1TG’ when one number away.
Best card sorting moves your closest tickets to the top so you don’t have to scroll.
Sound settings let you turn the caller voice on or off; see our sound and vibration guide.
Chat opens as a panel or a slide-up sheet; you can collapse it to give the tickets more room.
On a tablet, rooms often switch to a side-by-side layout with chat on the right. Our iPad casino apps page covers bigger-screen layouts.
Bingo odds: working out your chance per ticket
In a game with one winner, the maths is straightforward: your chance is your share of the tickets in play. If 400 tickets are sold and you hold 8, your chance of the full house is 8 ÷ 400 = 2%. If the room has 2,000 tickets and you hold 8, it falls to 0.4%. Buying more tickets raises your chance, but it raises your cost by exactly the same proportion.

The other half of value is the prize. Some rooms have a fixed prize regardless of how many people play, which means quiet times can be better value per ticket. Others pay out a share of ticket sales, so the pot grows with the room. Operators keep part of the money either way, which is their cost of running the game. Where a room shows a payout percentage, it tells you what share of ticket sales goes back as prizes on average.
Shared prizes are common. If three tickets complete the full house on the same call, a £30 prize becomes £10 each.
Chat rooms, hosts and chat games
Chat is a big part of bingo apps. Many rooms have a host who welcomes players and runs chat games with small prizes, often in bonus funds with their own terms. Chat is moderated and follows the operator’s rules: no sharing personal details, no offensive language and no begging for funds. If you don’t want it, most apps let you mute chat or hide it completely from the room menu.
Treat any prize from a chat game the same way as any other promotion: open its terms before you play it, and look for wagering, expiry and which games it can be used on. Our bonus terms page explains what to look for.
Data, battery and notifications in bingo apps
A bingo room transmits small updates (the called numbers and chat lines) rather than video, so it uses little data compared with live casino streams. Battery use is modest unless you leave the screen on full brightness through long sessions. Slot side games and any video features use more.
Bingo apps often ask permission to send notifications about game start times or pre-bought tickets. You can allow those and still mute marketing. Our guide to casino app notifications shows where to change each type on iPhone and Android.
UK rules for bingo apps
Online bingo must be run by an operator with a Gambling Commission bingo licence, and you must be 18 or over.
Your identity and age are checked before you can play, and before any free-to-play games too.
Credit cards can’t be used to fund bingo or any other gambling in Great Britain.
Slots inside a bingo app follow the slot rules: £5 per spin at 25 and over, £2 at 18 to 24, and at least 2.5 seconds per spin.
Bonus wagering is capped at 10x from 19 January 2026, and offers that mix gambling products, such as bingo tickets that unlock slot spins, are banned from the same date.
If you want a break, bingo apps share the same safer gambling menu as their casino sections: deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion. See safer gambling on casino apps for how they work.
Bingo-led brands and how they compare with casino apps
Several UK brands are best known for bingo, such as tombola, Mecca Games and Heart Bingo. We profile them neutrally; we don’t partner with them. Casino-first apps sometimes include bingo as a smaller section. If you’re choosing between the two styles, our casino app vs bingo app comparison sets out the differences in lobby design, community features and game mix.
Practical tips for playing bingo on a phone
Compare the ticket price, prize and player count before you buy, not just the headline pot.
Decide on a set number of tickets per game rather than adding more as the countdown runs.
Watch for side games between bingo calls; they can cost far more per minute than the bingo itself.
Use reality checks so long sessions don’t creep up on you.
Bingo is entertainment you pay for; across many games most players get back less than they spend.

Frequently asked questions
Are bingo apps legal in the UK?
Yes, bingo apps are legal in the UK when they are run by an operator holding a Gambling Commission bingo licence. Apple and Google only accept real-money gambling apps from licensed operators for UK users, and every player must be 18 or over and pass identity checks. To confirm a brand is licensed, find the operator name in the app’s footer or terms and look it up on the public register. Our guide on checking a casino licence shows the steps, and safe casino apps explains the other checks.
How are bingo numbers drawn in an app?
Numbers in online bingo are drawn by a random number generator, not by a person pulling balls. The generator is tested by independent labs, and the Gambling Commission requires licensed operators to use systems that produce fair, unpredictable results. The voice you hear is a recording triggered by each number. Nothing about how many tickets you hold or how long you have played changes the draw. Our page on whether casino apps are rigged and the RNG glossary entry explain how testing works.
Does buying more bingo tickets improve my chances?
Yes, each extra ticket raises your chance, but your cost rises by exactly the same proportion. With 10 tickets out of 1,000 you have a 1% chance of a single-winner prize; with 20 tickets you have 2%, at double the price. The prize itself doesn’t change. The room’s cut of ticket sales means that, on average, players get back less than they spend. A set number of tickets per game is easier to budget for; our bankroll management on mobile guide has practical ideas.
What is auto-daub in bingo apps?
Auto-daub is the setting that marks called numbers on your tickets automatically, so you don’t have to tap each one. It is switched on by default in most bingo apps and is the reason you can follow dozens of tickets on a phone screen. It only marks tickets you have already bought; it doesn’t buy tickets or join games for you. If you prefer to dab manually, look in the room’s settings menu. Our casino app glossary lists other bingo and casino terms you’ll see.
Which bingo format is quickest on mobile?
Speed or 30-ball bingo is the quickest format, with a small 3 × 3 ticket and only a full card to win, so games often end in well under a minute. 75-ball and 80-ball games also run faster than traditional 90-ball, which has three prize stages. Faster games mean more games per hour and more spending if you buy into each one. If you play speed rooms, set a deposit limit and decide in advance how many games you will join.
Can I play bingo apps for free?
Some bingo apps run free rooms or free tickets, but they still require an account with completed age verification. Since May 2019, operators must confirm you are 18 or over before you can play any free-to-play game. Free rooms usually pay prizes in bonus funds with conditions such as wagering and expiry, so read the room information before joining. A free ticket is never free of conditions; check the terms. Our free casino apps page explains what demo and free play cover.
How much data does a bingo app use?
A bingo room uses very little data because it only sends the called numbers, ticket updates and chat messages, not video. That makes bingo one of the lightest games for a mobile data plan. Data use rises if you open slot side games, video chat features or live casino in the same app, and app updates are downloaded separately. On iPhone and Android you can see each app’s data use in Settings. Our casino app data usage guide explains how to check and reduce it.
Are bingo winnings taxed in the UK?
No, UK players don’t pay tax on gambling winnings, including bingo prizes from an app. The operator pays duty on its own profits, not on what you win. Large wins may trigger extra checks before a withdrawal, such as confirming your identity or where your deposits came from. That is a licensing requirement, not a tax. Withdrawals go back to the method you used to deposit where possible. See are casino app winnings taxed for more detail on the tax position.
