Casino apps on foldable phones install from the same app store as on any phone, and licensed UK apps run on Android foldables from Samsung, Google, Honor, Motorola, Oppo and others. What’s new is the screen switching: a game can reload when you unfold, some layouts letterbox on the square inner display, and flip phones add a tiny cover screen.
Foldables install UK casino apps from Google Play like any Android phone; no app is certified for a particular fold.
Unfolding mid-game may reload the app, but bets already placed are settled on the casino’s server.
Book-style folds give a tablet-sized lobby; flip phones are best played on the main inner screen.
Tabletop or Flex mode props the phone up for live dealer games, keeping the video above the betting area.

Do casino apps work on foldable phones?
Yes. A foldable is an Android phone with a bendable screen, so it uses Google Play and installs the same licensed real-money apps as any other. Google allows real-money gambling apps in Great Britain only from Gambling Commission licensees it has approved, and that applies to a Galaxy Z Fold exactly as it does to a budget handset. The only difference is how the app copes with two very different screens.
No casino app is certified for a specific foldable. Operators set a minimum Android version, and Google Play checks your device. One exception to the Play route is Huawei’s Mate X foldables launched since 2019, which don’t have Google services; see our Huawei page for the browser alternative. For Apple devices, the iPhone casino apps and iPad casino apps guides apply.

Flip phones’ cover screens are designed for widgets and quick replies. Some can run full apps through extra settings, but a casino game squeezed onto one is hard to read, and UK rules require your balance and net position to stay visible. Open the phone to play.
Setting up a casino app on a foldable
Unfold the phone and open Google Play on the main screen, where listings are easiest to read.
Check the account at the top right is a UK Google account and switch off any VPN.
Search for the casino and check the developer name matches the licence holder on its website.
Install and open the app on the inner screen, then log in or register.
Complete the age and identity checks; the inner screen makes photographing documents and reading instructions easier.
Fold the phone and open the app on the cover screen to see whether it continues or reloads, so you know what to expect.
If you use the camera to scan ID, the larger inner display helps you line up the document. Our guide to casino app verification explains which documents are usually asked for.
What happens when you unfold mid-game
When you open or close a foldable, Android tells the app the screen has changed size. Well-built apps redraw their layout and carry on. Some casino games, especially slots built for a fixed shape, reload instead, which can take a few seconds and may return you to the lobby.
This never costs you a placed bet. Every spin or hand is decided and recorded on the operator’s server, not on your phone, so if a game reloads, the result is in your history and your balance reflects it. If you’re mid-way through a slot bonus round, reopening the game usually resumes it. Our explainer on how casino app games work covers why.
Samsung foldables have a setting that controls which apps continue on the cover screen when you close the phone. If a casino app keeps closing when you fold, look under Settings > Display for the apps-on-cover-screen option.
Letterboxing and aspect ratio on the inner screen
A book-style fold’s inner screen is close to square. Apps designed only for tall phones may appear in a column with black bars either side, or ask to restart to fill the screen. Some manufacturers let you force an app to full screen: on Samsung foldables, look for app aspect ratio options in Settings, often under Advanced features or Labs. Google has also been changing Android so that, on large screens, apps built for newer versions can’t lock themselves to one orientation; casino apps on Android 16 explains what that means.
Forcing full screen works well for lobbies and live tables but can stretch or crop a slot. If a game looks wrong, switch back to the app’s default. Landscape-only slots often look best on a fold because the inner screen is wider than a normal phone; see portrait vs landscape mobile slots.
Tabletop and Flex mode for live dealer games
Most foldables can stand half-open on a table. Samsung calls it Flex mode; others call it tabletop mode. Apps that support it put video on the top half and controls on the bottom, which suits live roulette, blackjack and game shows well. Casino apps that don’t support it simply show across the bent screen, which still works for watching but is awkward for placing chips across the crease.
Live games stream continuously, so on mobile data they use far more than slots; casino app data usage has typical patterns, and live casino apps covers the games. UK rules also require at least 5 seconds per round on non-slot casino games and ban autoplay, so a propped-up phone won’t play on its own.
Split screen on a big fold: handy or a distraction?
A big inner screen invites multitasking, with a casino game on one side and a video or messages on the other. Casino apps generally allow it, but each half becomes a small phone again, and dividing your attention makes it harder to track time and spending. If you use split screen, keep the casino side large enough to read your balance and stake clearly, and set a reality check so the app reminds you how long you’ve played. See how to use reality checks.
The crease, screen protectors and touch accuracy
Folding screens have a slight crease and a factory-fitted protector that manufacturers tell you not to remove. Touches on the crease register normally, but buttons that sit right on it can be awkward. If a slot’s spin button or a live game’s chip rack lands on the fold, rotate the phone so the crease runs the other way. Foldable screens are softer than glass, so avoid tapping with a fingernail or a stylus that isn’t approved for the model.

Frequently asked questions
Can you play casino apps on a Galaxy Z Fold?
Yes. The Galaxy Z Fold runs Android with Google Play, so licensed UK casino apps install as normal, provided your software meets the operator’s minimum Android version, which Play checks for you. The inner screen gives you a larger lobby and live tables, while the cover screen works like a narrow phone. Some apps letterbox on the inner screen; Samsung’s aspect ratio settings can help. Operators don’t certify apps for individual foldables. See casino apps for Samsung Galaxy for Samsung-specific settings.
Do I lose my bet if a casino app reloads when I unfold?
No. Spins, hands and live rounds are decided and recorded on the casino’s servers, not on your phone. If the app reloads after you open or close the phone, the result of any round already in play still counts, and your balance and history show it. Slot bonus rounds normally resume when you reopen the game. If something looks wrong, take a screenshot of your history and contact live chat. Our transaction history guide explains where to look.
Can I use a casino app on a Galaxy Z Flip’s cover screen?
Only with workarounds, and it isn’t a good idea. Flip cover screens are designed for widgets and quick replies; running full apps there usually needs extra settings, and a casino game shrunk that small is hard to read. UK rules require your balance and net position to be visible, and tiny buttons make mistakes more likely. Open the phone and play on the main screen. Notifications on the cover screen are worth reviewing too; see casino app notifications.
Why does a slot show black bars on my foldable’s inner screen?
Because the inner screen is close to square, and many slots are built for a tall phone or a wide landscape shape. Rather than stretching the reels, the game keeps its proportions and fills the gaps. Rotating the phone often helps, as landscape slots use the width better. Some manufacturers offer full-screen aspect ratio settings, but forcing them on a slot can crop the game, so revert if it looks wrong. Our mobile slot features guide covers how slots are laid out.
Is a foldable phone good for live casino?
It can be, mainly because of the screen. A book-style fold shows the dealer video and betting grid together at a larger size, and tabletop mode props the phone up with video on top and controls below. The trade-offs are battery and data use, since live games stream video constantly, and the crease, which can sit under a button. Use Wi-Fi where you can. Our how to play live casino on mobile guide covers betting and timing.
Do casino apps support Flex mode or tabletop mode?
Some do and some don’t, and it can vary by game within the same app. Apps that support it split the screen at the hinge, with video above and controls below. Those that don’t display normally across the bent screen, which is fine for watching but awkward for tapping near the fold. Operators don’t generally list tabletop support in their store listings, so try it with the phone half-open. Live dealer games benefit most; see game show apps for another format that suits it.
Are foldable phones safe for casino apps?
Yes, in the same way as any Android phone: install from Google Play, check the operator is UKGC-licensed, keep the software updated and lock the phone with a fingerprint or PIN. A foldable’s bigger screen makes on-screen details easier to check, such as the developer name and the licence footer. Turn on two-factor authentication if the casino offers it. The real risks are fake apps and phishing, not the hinge. Our guide to keeping your casino account secure has the details.
Can I play on a Huawei Mate X foldable?
Not through Google Play if your Mate X launched after 2019, because those models don’t have Google services and UK casino apps are published on Play. The casino’s mobile website works instead, using the same account, offers and limits, and it resizes between the cover and inner screens. Avoid APK files and unofficial Google workarounds. Our Huawei casino guide and app vs mobile site explain the browser route in detail.
