Cashback in casino apps

Cashback in a casino app is a payment back to you worked out as a percentage of something you have already done: usually your net losses over a period, or your total stakes. A 10% weekly cashback on £80 of net losses returns £8. It softens losses slightly but never removes them, and it can be paid as withdrawable cash or as a bonus with wagering.

Key takeaways

  • Loss-based cashback pays a percentage of net losses; stake-based schemes pay a slice of every bet.
  • Cashback is always smaller than the loss it relates to, so it reduces the cost of play rather than reversing it.
  • Paid as cash it is withdrawable; paid as a bonus it can carry up to 10x wagering in the UK.
  • Check the period, the percentage, any cap and which games count.

What cashback means in a casino app

Cashback is a reward calculated from your past play and paid back into your account. Unlike a matched deposit bonus, which is based on money you are about to put in, cashback looks backwards: at what you staked or lost over a day, a week or a single session.

The name sounds generous, but the arithmetic is simple. A casino game has a house edge, so over time players as a group lose a share of what they stake. Cashback returns a fraction of that, which lowers the overall cost of play. It never turns a losing session into a winning one, and it isn’t a refund.

Loss-based cashback is the classic version. Stake-based schemes work more like a rebate, and some are presented as part of loyalty programmes. The casino app loyalty rewards page compares coins, races and money-back schemes across the apps we cover.

How cashback is calculated, with examples

Loss-based: a weekly example

Suppose a hypothetical offer pays 10% of net losses each week. Net losses are usually deposits minus withdrawals minus your remaining balance. You deposit £100, withdraw nothing and end the week with £20. Your net loss is £80, so cashback is £8. If you had withdrawn £30 and finished with £20, the net loss would be £50 and cashback £5.

Stake-based: a per-bet example

Now take a hypothetical scheme returning 0.5% of every stake. Five hundred spins at 20p means £100 staked, so 50p comes back. On a slot with a 96% RTP, the theoretical loss on £100 of stakes is £4, so the money back covers about an eighth of the expected cost. The actual percentages each operator uses vary by game and are set out in their own terms.

These figures are illustrations, not partner terms. Read the cashback percentage, period and cap on the offer itself before relying on any calculation.

Cashback paid as cash or as a bonus

How cashback lands in your account changes its value. Cash cashback goes straight into your withdrawable balance with no conditions. Bonus cashback arrives as bonus funds and usually needs to be wagered before it can be withdrawn. Since 19 January 2026, UK casinos can’t set that wagering above 10x, so £8 of bonus cashback could need up to £80 of bets.

Check the wording for “paid in cash”, “no wagering” or a wagering multiple. Our no wagering entry explains why cash credits are the simpler kind, and the casino app cashback page compares the different schemes in more detail.

Finding cashback in an app, step by step

  1. Open the app and look for Promotions, Rewards or a loyalty tab in the bottom menu or main menu.
  2. Tap the cashback or money-back card and open its terms. Note the percentage, the period, any cap and the games that count.
  3. Opt in if the card asks you to. Some schemes apply automatically to all accounts, others need an opt-in.
  4. After the period ends, check the rewards area or your inbox for the credit, and your transaction history for how it was paid.
  5. If a credit seems wrong, compare it with your deposits and withdrawals in the account history before contacting support.

The transaction history page shows where deposits, withdrawals and credits are listed in most apps.

Cashback and keeping play in proportion

Cashback can create a feeling that losses are “covered”, which can make it tempting to play longer or deposit again. They aren’t: a 10% scheme still leaves 90% of a net loss with you. If you notice yourself playing to qualify for cashback, or treating it as a reason to chase, that is a sign to pause.

Every UK-licensed app offers deposit limits, time-outs and reality checks in its account settings. A loss limit is especially useful alongside cashback because it caps the very figure cashback is based on. The National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, 24 hours a day.

Frequently asked questions

What is cashback at an online casino?

Cashback is money paid back to you as a percentage of your losses or stakes over a set period. A typical loss-based offer might return 10% of net losses each week, so £80 of losses would bring back £8. Some schemes pay a small share of every stake instead, whether you win or lose. Cashback reduces the cost of playing but never makes up for losses in full. It can be paid as cash or as bonus funds with wagering. Our casino app cashback page compares how operators structure it.

Is casino cashback paid in cash?

Sometimes. It depends on the operator’s terms. Some schemes credit withdrawable cash with no conditions, which is the simplest and most valuable form. Others pay cashback as bonus funds that must be wagered before withdrawal; since 19 January 2026 that wagering can’t be more than 10x at a UK-licensed casino. Look for wording such as paid in cash or no wagering on the cashback card. If it isn’t stated, ask support before relying on it. The no wagering casino apps page explains why cash credits are easier to use.

How is net loss worked out for cashback?

Net loss is usually your deposits during the period, minus any withdrawals, minus the balance left at the end. Deposit £100, withdraw £30 and finish with £20, and the net loss is £50. Some operators calculate it per game type or exclude bonus funds, so the definition in the terms matters. Your transaction history in the app lists the deposits and withdrawals you need to check the figure. See how to check your play history for where to find it on iPhone and Android.

What is OJOplus on PlayOJO?

OJOplus is PlayOJO’s money-back feature, which pays a share of what you stake back to you on every game played, whether a bet wins or loses. It is separate from PlayOJO’s welcome offer. We don’t quote a rate here because we haven’t verified one, so check PlayOJO’s own terms in the app for the current figure and how it is paid. Like any rebate, it lowers the cost of play rather than changing the house edge. The PlayOJO app review covers the app’s other features.

Is cashback worth it?

It is worth having if you would play anyway, because it lowers the overall cost, but it isn’t a reason to play more. A 10% loss-based scheme still leaves you with 90% of the loss, and money back on stakes is usually a small fraction of the house edge. Value depends on the percentage, any cap, whether it is paid as cash and which games count. If cashback makes you more likely to chase losses, switch off promotional messages and set a limit. The casino app limits guide shows how.

Does cashback have wagering requirements?

Only if it is paid as a bonus. Cash cashback goes into your withdrawable balance with no conditions. Bonus cashback must be wagered before withdrawal, and at UK-licensed casinos the multiple can’t exceed 10x, so £10 of bonus cashback needs at most £100 of bets. Game weighting, a max bet rule and an expiry date may apply too. Check the cashback terms in the app’s promotions area before playing, and see the wagering requirement entry for how to work out the betting needed.
