A casino app update required message means the version on your phone is older than the minimum the casino now supports, so it won’t open until you install the latest one. Tap Update, or open the App Store or Google Play, find the app and update it. If no update appears, your phone’s software or storage is usually the cause.
Casinos block old app versions so that security fixes, payment changes and rule updates reach everyone.
Updating takes a minute from the App Store or Google Play, and your account and balance are untouched.
If the store shows no update, your phone may be below the app’s minimum iOS or Android version or short of storage.
Coral and Ladbrokes’ iOS apps need iOS 18 or later; PlayOJO and Casumo need iOS 15 or later.

Casino app update required: what the message means
Most apps nudge you to update; casino apps often insist. When you open the app, it checks its version number with the casino’s servers. If your version is below the minimum the operator still supports, the app shows a full-screen message, often with a single Update button that takes you to the store. Until you update, you can’t sign in, deposit or play.
Your account isn’t affected. The balance, limits, bonuses and history all live on the casino’s servers, and the website keeps working while you sort the app out. If you are in the middle of something time-sensitive, such as claiming daily free spins before a deadline, sign in on the mobile website as a stopgap.
Why casino apps force you to update
Security fixes. A flaw in an old version could expose accounts, so the casino closes it off for everyone at once.
Payment changes. New payment providers, Apple Pay or Google Pay changes and bank requirements often need new app code.
Rule changes. UK rules on stake limits, game speed and safer gambling tools have changed several times since 2021, and the app must reflect them.
Operating system changes. New iOS and Android releases change permissions, notifications and biometrics, and older app builds can break.
Store requirements. Apple and Google periodically require apps to be rebuilt with newer tools to stay listed.
Running one supported version also makes support simpler: an agent knows exactly what screen you are looking at. Our UK casino app rule changes 2026 guide covers the regulatory changes that have driven recent updates.
How to update a casino app on iPhone and iPad
Tap Update on the casino app’s message, or open the App Store yourself.
Tap your profile picture in the top right of the App Store.
Pull down on the account screen to refresh the list of pending updates.
Find the casino app and tap Update, or tap Update All.
Wait for the download to finish, then open the app and sign in.
If the app was originally installed with a different Apple ID, the App Store may ask for that account’s password. The full process, including automatic updates, is in how to update casino apps.
How to update a casino app on Android
Tap Update on the app’s message, or open Google Play.
Tap your profile icon, then Manage apps and device.
Tap Updates available, or See details.
Find the casino app and tap Update.
Open the app once the update finishes and sign in.
If you installed the casino app from an APK file rather than Google Play, Google Play won’t update it. Delete it and reinstall from Google Play, which is safer anyway; see casino APK downloads for why.

Each app sets a minimum operating system. When an app raises that minimum, phones that can’t install the newer system are left on the last compatible version, and if the casino then blocks that version, the app stops working on those phones. Google Play’s web listings don’t show minimum Android versions; the store tells you on the device if your phone is incompatible. If your phone is stuck, the casino’s mobile website in Safari or Chrome usually works on older software and uses the same account. Our page on casino apps on older phones explains the options, and iPhone casino apps compares the iOS apps.
Not enough storage to install the update
An update needs room to download alongside the existing app, so you may need more free space than the app’s listed size. On iPhone, check Settings > General > iPhone Storage; on Android, Settings > Storage. Offloading unused apps, clearing old videos or emptying the app’s cache usually frees enough. The casino apps for low storage phones page has more ideas.

What to try

Normal after some updates; sign in with your password
Face ID or fingerprint switched off
Re-enable it in the app’s security settings

Restart the phone; if it continues, delete and reinstall
Games won’t load
Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then clear cache on Android
Location check fails
Re-allow location permission in the phone’s settings
Turning on automatic updates means you rarely see the warning. On iPhone, go to Settings > App Store and switch on App Updates under Automatic Downloads. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile, then Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps. Automatic updates use Wi-Fi by default, which saves mobile data. Keep the phone’s own software current too, as that keeps you above each app’s minimum for longer.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my casino app say update required?
The version on your phone is below the minimum the casino now supports. Operators block old versions to roll out security fixes, payment changes and updates linked to UK rules, so everyone runs a version that works with the current systems. Open the App Store or Google Play, find the app and tap Update. Your account, balance and settings aren’t affected. If no update appears, your phone’s software may be too old. Full steps are in how to update casino apps.
Will updating a casino app delete my account or balance?
No. Your account, balance, bonuses, limits and history are stored on the casino’s servers, not in the app, so updating, deleting or reinstalling the app doesn’t touch them. The worst that usually happens is that you need to sign in again and switch Face ID or fingerprint login back on. If you are worried, check your balance on the casino’s website before and after. Deleting the app doesn’t close the account either; see does deleting a casino app close your account.
What if my iPhone can’t install the latest casino app version?
Check which iOS version the app needs on its App Store listing and compare it with Settings > General > About. If your iPhone can’t update its software to that level, the app may stop working once the casino blocks older versions. You can still use the casino’s mobile website in Safari, which uses the same account. Some apps support older iOS versions: PlayOJO and Casumo list iOS 15.0, while Coral and Ladbrokes need iOS 18.0. See casino apps on older phones.
How do I update a casino app on Android?
Open Google Play, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps and device, then Updates available, and tap Update next to the casino app. You can also search for the app and tap Update on its page. If you installed the app from an APK file rather than Google Play, the store won’t update it; uninstall it and reinstall from Google Play. Turning on auto-update in Google Play settings avoids the message next time. The Android casino apps page lists the apps available on Google Play.
Why is there no update in the App Store when the app says I need one?
Usually the App Store hasn’t refreshed, so pull down on your account page to reload pending updates. Other causes are an update still rolling out, a different Apple ID used for the original download, a store region set outside the UK, or an iPhone running an iOS version older than the app requires. Deleting and reinstalling the app from the UK App Store often fixes account and region mix-ups. More fixes are in can’t download casino apps on iPhone.
Can I keep using an old version of a casino app?
Only until the casino blocks it. Some operators allow older versions to run for a while with a reminder, but once a minimum version is set, the old app shows the update required screen and won’t let you sign in. There is no safe way round this: downloading old versions from third-party sites risks malware and fake apps. If you can’t update, use the casino’s mobile website instead. Why unofficial downloads are risky is covered in how to spot fake casino apps.
Do casino app updates use a lot of data?
A full update can be similar in size to the app itself. The UK App Store lists the Coral app at 101.6 MB, Ladbrokes at 101.2 MB, 10bet at 112.3 MB, Casumo at 52.5 MB and PlayOJO at 25.4 MB, though updates are often smaller than a full install. Both stores update over Wi-Fi by default, so you can avoid using mobile data. Games themselves load separately while you play. The casino app data usage page compares typical data use.
Why did my casino app log me out after an update?
Updates sometimes clear the stored sign-in token, particularly when security or login code has changed, so the app asks for your password again. It is normal and doesn’t mean anything has happened to your account. Sign in, then switch Face ID or fingerprint login back on in the app’s settings. If your password is no longer accepted, use the reset link on the login screen. The casino app password reset guide covers resets step by step.
Is the mobile website a good alternative if I can’t update?
Yes, for most things. The mobile website uses the same account, balance, limits and games, and it runs in Safari or Chrome on older phones that can no longer install the latest app. You lose some app conveniences, such as push notifications, home screen widgets or Face ID sign-in, though browsers can save your password. You can add the site to your home screen for quick access, as explained in add a casino to your home screen.
