Playtech mobile slots

Playtech mobile slots include the Age of the Gods jackpot series, Jackpot Giant and Gladiator, made by a London-listed company founded in 1999 that also builds casino platforms and live games. This guide explains how Playtech fits into a UK casino app, how its linked jackpots work on a phone, why jackpot slots publish lower RTPs and how to find Playtech titles in the lobby.

Key takeaways

  • Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi and is based in Douglas, Isle of Man.
  • It is listed on the London Stock Exchange (PTEC) and owns the slot studio Quickspin.
  • Age of the Gods slots share a four-tier progressive jackpot, which is why their published RTPs include a jackpot contribution.

Playtech: more than a slot studio

Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi. It is now headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man and listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC, having first floated on AIM in 2006. Its own site describes it as a technology company for the gambling industry and says it is a FTSE 250 company.

Unlike most studios on our providers hub, Playtech does far more than make games. It supplies the account and wallet systems some casinos run on, live dealer studios, bingo and poker software, and a safer gambling analytics tool called BetBuddy. Its site says its casino arm has eight content studios. So when you play a Playtech slot, you may be using a casino that also runs on Playtech technology behind the scenes, though that is invisible to you as a player.

Age of the Gods: Playtech's linked jackpot series

Age of the Gods is the series most people link with Playtech. It is a family of Greek mythology slots that share a progressive jackpot with four tiers: Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. A small part of each stake on any game in the series goes into the pots, so they grow across every connected casino until someone wins.

The jackpot game is triggered at random rather than by landing particular symbols, and the game rules explain whether and how your stake affects the chance of triggering it. The original Age of the Gods slot, released in 2016, uses a 5×3 grid with 20 fixed paylines and publishes an RTP of 95.02% including the jackpot contribution.

A progressive jackpot is extremely unlikely to land on any given spin. The jackpot is a reason some people enjoy these games, not a reason to stake more or play longer.

Why Playtech jackpot slots publish lower RTPs

Notice that the jackpot games in the table publish RTPs around 94% to 95%, while Halloween Fortune, with no jackpot, publishes 97.06%. That pattern is normal: part of every stake on a progressive game is set aside to fund the pots, so the everyday game returns less. The published figure usually includes the jackpot contribution, meaning most of that slice only comes back to the rare player who wins a pot.

In pounds: £100 staked on a game published at 95.02% has a theoretical long-run cost of about £4.98, against about £2.94 on a 97.06% game. If you do not care about the jackpot, a non-jackpot game generally gives more back in ordinary play. If the jackpot is part of the fun, treat the extra cost as the price of that chance.

  1. Open the slot and tap the menu or 'i' icon.
  2. Choose Help or Game rules.
  3. Find the RTP line and check whether it includes the jackpot contribution.
  4. For jackpot games, read whether the stake affects the chance of the jackpot game.
  5. Decide your stake with the full cost in mind.

Our jackpot slots apps page compares jackpot types, and our guide on finding a slot's RTP in an app shows where the line is.

Playing Playtech slots on iPhone and Android

Playtech's games are HTML5 and open inside your casino app. Many of its best-known titles date from the early and mid-2010s and were designed with a 5×3 landscape grid in mind, so a few things are worth knowing:

  • Portrait works but is smaller. Older 5×3 games usually shrink the reels to fit the width and place the controls below. Turning the phone sideways makes the reels fill the screen.
  • Jackpot tickers sit above the reels. On compact phones they can push the reels down; landscape gives more room.
  • The jackpot game opens as a separate screen when triggered and works in either orientation.
  • Load times are modest compared with newer art-heavy games, which helps on older or budget phones. See casino apps on older phones.

Our portrait vs landscape mobile slots guide explains how to lock or unlock rotation on iPhone and Android.

Playtech live casino in apps

Playtech also runs live dealer games, which appear in the Live Casino tab of apps that stock them rather than in the slots lobby. Like all live games, they stream video and use more data than slots, and UK rules for non-slot games require at least 5 seconds per round with no autoplay. Our live casino apps guide explains how live tables work on a phone, and the Evolution page covers the other major live supplier.

UK rules on Playtech mobile slots

In Great Britain, Playtech slots run with at least 2.5 seconds per spin, no autoplay or turbo, no celebration of a return below your stake, and your balance and net position on screen. Stakes are capped at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 per spin for 18–24-year-olds, which also limits how much you can put into jackpot games. Feature buys are not offered here. Demo play is only available once your age is verified. See our UK stake limits on mobile slots guide.

How to find Playtech games in a casino app

  1. Open the casino app and log in.
  2. Tap Search and type a game name such as Age of the Gods.
  3. Check the Jackpots tab, if the app has one, for the linked series.
  4. Use the Providers filter, where available, to list Playtech games.
  5. Save favourites for one-tap access later.

Some casinos stock only a selection of Playtech titles, and jackpot games are often excluded from bonus play. Our finding games in a casino app guide has more search tips.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns Playtech?

Playtech is a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC, so it is owned by its shareholders. It was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi, first floated on AIM in 2006, and is now headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man. Playtech in turn owns several studios, including Quickspin, which it bought in 2016. It also supplies technology and live games to casinos. Our Quickspin page covers the Swedish studio, and the slot providers hub lists other groups.

How do Age of the Gods jackpots work?

Age of the Gods slots share a four-tier progressive jackpot, with tiers called Power, Extra Power, Super Power and Ultimate Power. Part of each stake on any game in the series goes into the pots, which grow across all connected casinos. The jackpot game is triggered at random, and the rules explain whether your stake affects the chance. Winning a top tier is extremely unlikely on any spin. Our Age of the Gods guide and progressive jackpot entry explain the details.

Why is the RTP of Playtech jackpot slots lower?

Jackpot slots publish lower RTPs because part of every stake funds the progressive pots. Age of the Gods publishes 95.02% and Gladiator 95.05%, both including the jackpot contribution, while Halloween Fortune, with no jackpot, publishes 97.06%. Most of the jackpot slice is paid to the rare winners of the pots, so ordinary play returns less. On £100 staked, the theoretical cost is about £5 on the jackpot game against about £3 on the higher-RTP game. Our RTP entry and jackpot slots apps page explain more.

Can I play Playtech slots on an iPhone?

Yes, Playtech slots play on iPhone and iPad inside any licensed casino app that stocks them. They are HTML5 games, so they open within the casino's app rather than as separate downloads. Many older Playtech titles were designed for a 5×3 landscape grid, so turning the phone sideways makes the reels larger, although portrait works too. Make sure your casino app is updated, as the App Store listing states the minimum iOS version. Our iPhone casino apps guide covers which apps are available and how to install them.

Can I use a bonus on Playtech jackpot slots?

Often not, because many casinos exclude progressive jackpot slots from bonus play, but it depends on each offer's terms. Free spins are usually limited to named games, and matched bonuses list excluded titles in their terms. Where jackpot games are allowed, they may count at a reduced rate towards wagering, which is capped at 10x in Great Britain. Always check the eligible games list before playing with bonus money. Our game weighting guide and jackpot free spins page explain the common restrictions.

Is Playtech a safe games supplier?

Playtech is a long-established, London-listed supplier, and its games are offered in Great Britain only through UK-licensed casinos, which must use tested and approved games. Safe in that sense does not mean low cost: every slot has a house edge, and jackpot slots in particular have lower published RTPs. Use the casino's deposit limits, reality checks and time-outs to stay in control. If you need help, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133. Our safe casino apps guide explains what to check.

What is the best-paying Playtech slot?

Among the Playtech slots we cover, Halloween Fortune publishes the highest RTP, at 97.06%, though casinos may run lower versions. A higher RTP means a lower theoretical cost over a very long run, not a better chance in any single session. Jackpot games such as Age of the Gods publish around 95% because part of each stake funds the pots. Check the live RTP in the game's rules before playing. Our Halloween Fortune guide and best payout casino apps page explain how RTP works on mobile.

Does Playtech make live casino games?

Yes, Playtech runs live dealer games as well as slots, and they appear in the Live Casino section of apps that offer them. Live games stream video, so they use more data and battery than slots, and UK rules require at least 5 seconds per round with no autoplay. The £5 and £2 slot stake caps do not apply to live tables, which have their own bet limits. Availability depends on whether your casino stocks Playtech's live games. Our how to play live casino on mobile guide walks through the screen layout.
