Unibet casino app: the short version

Unibet is one of the older names in online gambling, offering sports betting and casino games under one account. In Great Britain the brand is licensed to Platinum Gaming Limited, with a registered office at Sovereign Place, 117 Main Street, Gibraltar. If you have the Unibet app on your phone, that is the company whose name should appear in the licence statement and, ideally, connect to the developer shown on the store listing.

This page doesn’t rate Unibet or describe its current welcome offer. It sets out verifiable facts so you can make your own decision, and finishes with a neutral comparison against the five apps we review.

Who owns Unibet: from Anders Ström to FDJ United

Anders Ström founded Unibet in 1997. The parent company was later renamed Kindred Group in 2016, keeping Unibet as its flagship brand. In October 2024 the French lottery operator La Française des Jeux completed its takeover of Kindred, and the enlarged business now trades as FDJ United.

Because 32Red sits under the same licence, an issue with one brand can show up in Commission findings about the other. Our 32Red app profile covers that brand separately.

Unibet’s UKGC licence and public record

The Gambling Commission’s register shows Platinum Gaming Limited under account 45322 for customers in Great Britain. Its listed domains are unibet.co.uk, touch.unibt.co.uk and 32red.com, plus two bingo.com addresses marked as white label, meaning another brand trades on Platinum Gaming’s licence.

Two enforcement cases are on record. In March 2023 the Commission imposed a penalty of £2,937,599 and a warning. On 22 September 2025 it imposed a further £10,000,000 financial penalty, with a warning and licence conditions, covering anti-money laundering and customer interaction failures between January 2023 and May 2024. The register notes that the licensee cooperated with the investigation. Our remote gambling licence explainer covers what licence conditions mean in practice.

What the Unibet app covers on a phone

Unibet is a mixed brand: sports betting sits alongside casino, live casino and other products. For a phone user that means a busier app than a casino-only download, with menus switching between sport and games. If you only want casino games, it helps to set the casino lobby as your starting tab where the app allows it, and to mute sports notifications you won’t use.

Since 19 January 2026, UK operators can no longer run promotions that mix products, such as betting on football to unlock casino spins. Our explainer on sport and casino app offers covers what changed. Any casino bonus is also capped at 10x wagering under the same rules.

Finding and checking the Unibet app on iPhone and Android

We haven’t independently confirmed the current App Store and Google Play listing details for Unibet, so check them yourself before installing. The steps below work for any gambling app.

  1. Search the App Store or Google Play for “Unibet” and open the listing, not a sponsored result for another app.
  2. Read the developer or seller name under the app title.
  3. Scroll to Information (iPhone) or About this app (Android) and check the 18+ rating.
  4. Install and open the app, then find the licence text in the footer or About section.
  5. Search the UKGC register for account 45322 and confirm the domains and brand match.
  6. Turn on Face ID or fingerprint login if offered, and set a deposit limit before funding the account.

Unibet app or mobile site?

The account is the same either way: same balance, same limits, same verification. An app adds biometric login, push notifications and a home-screen icon. The mobile site avoids storage use and updates. On a phone with little free space, the browser is a perfectly good option. Our app versus mobile site guide sets out the trade-offs in more detail.

Safer gambling tools you should find in the Unibet app

UK licensees must offer a standard set of controls. In the Unibet app, look under the account or profile menu for:

  • deposit limits by day, week or month;
  • reality checks that remind you how long you have been playing;
  • time-outs from one day to several weeks;
  • self-exclusion, and the option to register with GAMSTOP for all UK sites at once.

Gambling is entertainment that costs money, and losses are the likely outcome over time. Free, confidential help is available from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 and from GamCare.

Verification and withdrawals on a mixed sport and casino app

Every UK operator must confirm your age and identity before you can deposit or play, including free-to-play demos. Platinum Gaming may ask for documents through the app’s upload screen, and larger deposits can trigger affordability checks. Withdrawals go back to the method you deposited with where possible; check the app’s cashier for current methods and times rather than relying on third-party lists.

Frequently asked questions

Who runs Unibet in the UK?

Platinum Gaming Limited runs Unibet for customers in Great Britain under Gambling Commission account 45322. The company is registered at Sovereign Place, 117 Main Street, Gibraltar, and also operates the 32Red brand. It is part of Kindred Group, which has been owned by FDJ United since October 2024. You can confirm the licence by searching the public register on your phone. Our guide on checking a casino licence shows where each detail appears.

Is the Unibet app safe and legal in the UK?

Unibet holds a UK Gambling Commission licence through Platinum Gaming Limited, so it is legal for adults in Great Britain to use. A licence means the operator must protect customer funds in line with its disclosed policy, verify ages, offer safer gambling tools and handle complaints. It doesn’t mean you will win, and the house edge applies. The Commission has fined the licensee twice, in 2023 and 2025. Our safe casino apps guide explains what a licence does and doesn’t promise.

Are Unibet and 32Red the same company?

They are separate brands run by the same licensee. Platinum Gaming Limited, UKGC account 45322, holds the licence for both, and the register lists unibet.co.uk and 32red.com under that account. Each brand has its own app, website, look and promotions, and you need a separate account for each. Self-excluding from one brand does not automatically exclude you from the other, so use GAMSTOP if you want to block both. See our 32Red app profile for that brand’s details.

Who owns Unibet now?

FDJ United, formerly La Française des Jeux, has been Unibet’s ultimate owner since October 2024, when it completed its takeover of Kindred Group. Kindred itself was called Unibet Group until 2016. The UK licence remains with Platinum Gaming Limited, so the day-to-day relationship between you and the operator is unchanged by the takeover. Ownership changes can bring new terms or app updates over time, so it is sensible to reread the app’s terms after any major group change. Our terms and conditions guide explains what to look for.

Has Unibet been fined by the Gambling Commission?

Yes. Platinum Gaming Limited received a £2,937,599 penalty and a warning in March 2023. On 22 September 2025 the Commission imposed a £10,000,000 penalty with a warning and additional licence conditions for anti-money laundering and customer interaction failures between January 2023 and May 2024. The register notes the operator cooperated. These records are public on the UKGC register. Our page on UK casino app rules explains the duties operators must meet.

Can I use the Unibet casino app on an older phone?

Possibly, but check the store listing for the minimum iOS or Android version before downloading, as requirements rise over time. If your phone is too old for the current app, the mobile site in Safari or Chrome uses the same account and games without an install. Live dealer games are the most demanding part of any casino app, using more data and battery than slots. Our guide to casino apps on older phones covers the usual limits.

Does Unibet let me bet on sport and play casino on one account?

Unibet is a mixed brand, so sports betting and casino games normally share one account and one balance. Since 19 January 2026, though, UK rules ban promotions that combine products, such as betting on sport to unlock casino spins, so bonuses now stay within one product. Safer gambling limits usually apply across the whole account. If you want to see how mixed apps differ from casino-only ones, read our casino apps vs betting apps guide.

How do I check that I have the real Unibet app?

Download it only from the App Store, Google Play or a link on unibet.co.uk, then compare the developer name and in-app licence statement with the UKGC register entry for account 45322. The register lists the brand’s domains, which helps you confirm any website the app opens. Be wary of APK files from unknown sites or apps with Unibet in the name but an unrelated developer. Our fake casino apps guide lists the warning signs.
